The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Today's reading discusses change. We often come to Al-Anon fearful - of others, life, change, the disease, etc. Even though for most of us chaos was a daily event, it was familiar and gave the illusion of 'control'. It was nothing more than that - an illusion. We learn in recovery that we are powerless over alcoholism and many other things. We also learn that change is inevitable.
Al-Anon helps us realize that change is not bad - it's a part of life. When we look back, we actually can see that for most, change has been good - even awesome! While we may still have fears, our program shows us that our HP will lead us to walk through our fears. Choosing to trust in a power greater than self, and trusting that this Power will know what we need and when we need is a big change for most in recovery.
Today's Reminder --- Today I can accept the changes occurring in my life and live more comfortably with them. I will trust in the God of my understanding and my fears will diminish. I relax in this knowledge, knowing that I am always taken care of when I listen to my inner voice.
Today's Quote --- "We may wonder how we are going to get through all the stages and phases, the levels of growth and recovery . . . Knowing we are not alone often quiets our fears and helps us gain perspective." from Living With Sobriety

I recall hearing "The only thing constant in life is change..." many years ago and dismissing it as some witty statement. Yet, it is so true, at least for me. I did come to recovery full of fear, esp. of the unknown. Working the program and working with a sponsor has helped me greatly with this fear. I am so grateful that I no longer am 'stuck' in my fear and feel I am not alone.
The God of my understanding has allowed me to accept my powerlessness with grace. What a gift to be able to allow others their path/journey, free of my worry, concern, consternation and judgement. Letting go of all that is beyond my control has allowed my fears to diminish greatly.
Happy Thursday MIP family! Little people are here - what a gift! Make it a great day!

Good Morning IAH Great topic- I remember when I first entered program and heard about "Fear " I was amazed because I honestly had never acknowledged "Fear in my life.
Working the Steps, I discovered that early in my childhood, i learned how to change "Fear" into anger (as it was easier to express and made me feel powerful). One of the many gifts of the program was in learning how to feel my feelings and then learning the appropriate manner to express them.
I agree that "acceptance of life on life's terms helped tremendously in my embracing the sereniity and the wisdom of this spiritual program.
Thanks for your service and Do enjoy the "little people" .
