information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
I will be agreeable - I will try hard to accept that everyone is entitled to think the way they do and have their own opinions and view of life and that just because its different from mine it doesnt mean they are wrong. So, I can say 'you could be right' or 'I hadn't thought of it that way' I dont have to be determined that my view is the right one and only be happy when I get everyone to agree that Im right and they are wrong.
I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly - I have my make up on, my high heels, my hair is clean and needs cut but isnt a mess. I am not showing off my boobs and I am dressed appropriately for my job.
I will keep my voice low - I dont have to shout to be heard and in fact when im shouting or determined to be heard then the whole world has power over me and Im a puppet. I can listen and voice my thoughts calmly and lowly and let go of who hears or not. This is the ego thing, I dont have to be the centre of attention and in fact when I am then im not in my program im feeding my fears and my ego.
I will be courteous - simple things like listening when someone is talking, being tolerant of the wide range of personalities I come into contact with, dont have to judge good bad or right or wrong, I can be pleasant to everyone regardless of anything they say or do.
Criticise not one bit. I wont find fault with anything, nor try to improve or regulate anyone but myself - I can try hard to accept people places and things exactly how they are right in this moment and I can actively look for the good in it all. I have power over my own attitudes if I take my time to remember to accept accept accept. I can take the time to say the serenity prayer before going into the company of other humans and I can try to enjoy them just as they are.
Just for Today, I will be HONEST. Being agreeable is what people want. Sometimes I just say nothing.
I don't small-talk either. I don't have time; I'm on a mission for God.
A clean, fresh, healthy face without makeup but with a warm smile is a face of God.
And I have found that actually, the lower the heel, the closer to God.
We should look much different than the masses.

Good Luck LC - I love that little piece of literature!!! in the beginning of this Alanon journey, I would select just one item on the "Just for Today list and work on it. It was and is still a challenge to embrace all the items at once. I know if I hold tight to these suggestions I/you will have a successful day.

(((el-cee))), good luck and I'm sending positive thoughts to you and your heels :) The "just for today" bookmark was the second Alanon item I ordered (the first was "How Alanon works") and now I have it memorized. I absolutely love how it has taught me to behave with dignity and grace and to treat others with dignity and grace. I do my best to follow its simple, but hard to do, suggested actions and I'm so happy our gentle program is about progress and not perfection.
