Today's c2c is about continued disappointments, and how we can eventually close our hearts to the possibility of happiness and instead resign ourselves to unhappiness- if we can't be happy, we think, perhaps we can at least prevent ever being disappointed again.
The reading points out that having hope is a risk that many of us become too cautious to take after years of being let down, but as we start to recover we start to realise that simply avoiding disappointment might not be enough and we need to make room in our hearts again for hope and joy. Having faith that these things can exist again can be very challenging. We need to remind ourselves that we do have the capacity for happiness.
Gratitude lists, and finding joy in simple day-to day pleasures is a great way to become receptive to the idea of happiness again.
"I want to grow in my willingness to make room in my life for good times, having faith in their arrival and patience in my anticipation" (living with sobriety)
Thank you for your service, MissM. Daily gratitude and also asset lists work well for me, because they make me see the good things even when I don't really want to.
