The C2C reading for May 21 speaks about the seventh step in which we humbly ask HP to remove our shortcomings. This is indeed a powerful step and a deep reminder that we are unable to remove our own shortcomings. This step requires humility because we must acknowledge our dependence on a power greater than ourselves. The reading points out that humility is said to be quietness of heart. It means that we do our part and trust that God will take care of the rest. The reading also suggests that all we have to do is ask HP for healing.
The quote is from,Alcoholism The Family Disease; "humility will help us see ourselves in our true perspective and keep our minds open to the truth."
Great reminder. I tried so hard to will myself to be better in so many ways and of course failed over and over. Yet when I stopped trying to force myself to change and instead trusted my HP to help me, many damaging behaviours fell by the wayside. It's good to read this and realise, the same can be done with others as well...it wasn't a once only offer; as I change, more obstacles come up and sometimes new unhealthy behaviours emerge but that's OK; I can do that step as many times as I like
Great reminder and share Miss M. Awareness of how difficult it is to work on my own imperfections gives me more compassion for others. This doesn't mean that bad behavior is acceptable either from me or from others and my boundaries are reasonable and respectful. Al-anon helps me with the wisdom of what I can change and what I can't but HP can.
