Can someone help? ODAT Reading 3-4-2017

Is anyone willing to do today's C2C reading?

I've broken a tooth off and I'm in some quite substantial pain. Ergo my concentration power is zero. Also, prayers for this mofo to STOP  hurting quite so much would be really appreciated. Because I have to wait until Monday and honestly, well, Holy Mother. Anyone seen that movie "castaway"? Looking around for an ice-skate right about now.

Love you all.

Sorry.

Can someone help?

Hi Ms,M.  Sorry to hear you are in pain  I have the ODAT and can post  thoughts on today's reading

The ODA T reading for March 4 speaks about having the courage to face life on life's terms. When we are working the steps, we must guard against inpatient lapses and feeling sorry for ourselves.   We must also guard against resenting the words and actions of others.  Above all, we must not permit ourselves the tormenting excursion into the bitter past. Now that we are alert to the dangers we know that we need to start each day with prayers of gratitude that so much has been accomplished. We know that HP will continue to do bright is light and wisdom.
The quote is from Ecclesiastes; "truly, the light is sweet and pleasant thing. It is for the eyes to behold the sun"

Keep holding HP and Hope in your heart.   I do"hope" the dentist will help.  If it gets too bad in the States we can always go to he ER and they will help.
Love your new avatar -- looking like a"Movie Star"

Today,as I do each year  I had to call on all my alanon tools. It is  my son's birthday and I do  choose to  take a trip down memory lane and remember the good times( i  am reviewing  all his pictures  and am grateful he was in my life  for as long as it was possible.

Take care.  Let us know the outcome.

Can someone help? ODAT Reading 3-4-2017

Thanks Betty. The outcome at the moment is that I'm high as a kite on painkillers so I should probably not post too much lol.

Life on life's terms tho- wow. Tonight, I was angry and really upset. A nurse talked to me and at first I was kind of an a-hole to her. What can I say, I was in a lot of pain and lashing out all over the place. She asked me about my life. I started out very bitter and angry (I was being kind of a tool) and she just listened patiently. For a really long time. Eventually I brought the conversation around to the fact that actually, I don't hate myself, and my life actually doesn't suck that much, and i was sorry for being rude, and I was really grateful to her for listening to me for such a long time. She just smiled. Cause, you know. Nurses. Are there better people?

In fact, life is kind of hard but I feel really good about the job I am doing and the reasons I am doing it. And the way I am meeting the challenges. See I actually don't suck just because I front up to the ER with no money and a mouth full of rotten teeth. She helped me to remember that I do what I do because my top priority is making sure my child never feels unloved or unwanted. That's not a garbage priority. It's important. Basically the circumstances might suck but that doesn't mean I do.
Well that's my take-away. Life's terms can suck all they want, but that doesn't mean I do.

Thinking of you and your son today.

(((Betty)))

(((Betty))) - thank you for today's daily and your ESH + service. Happy Birthday to your son - love that you are reviewing his life on this day - the anniversary of when he came to be with you. I love that you are focusing on the good memories - sounds like a lovely plan.

I have pulled out the 'Just for Today' bookmark and have been reading it each morning. As it happens when there is uncertainty, I too am using the tools we have to refocus as best I can on God's will, this moment and what's working.

Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers today - huge hugs to you!!

Hi MissM,

Sorry your in pain and hope you're feeling a little better now. You're story about venting to the nurse helped me feel a little less alone. I have been having a lot of nightmares due to not working everything out emotionally during the day. Even attending a meeting and spending time with my sponsor last night didn't change that. I woke up this morning after the most bizarre dreams. Complained it out this morning to a willing listener. It's a good reminder for me "just because life on life's terms can suck, doesn't mean I do." That's a good reminder for me right now. Glad I can get out of that stinking thinking quicker these days but it still feels awful when I'm in it.

Betty, thank you for sharing today's reading and your experience, strength and hope. I hope today was a good one for you as you celebrated your son's life. He was lucky to be so very loved by you. In this program, not all of us get parents who can express their love and caring for us.

(((hugs))))

Thanks for the well-wishes folks.
Getting the nasty tooth removed on Tuesday.

TT, you can vent to me anytime if you feel the need. Amazing how much difference it can make and how much sense we can make of our own stuff once we hear it come out of our mouths!!

This is a good discussion for me as it fits with an earlier discussion I had with another member earlier this morning which in summation was about working the program and not holding others responsible for dysfunctions caused by my unwillingness to work it.  I have done that even when knowing I ought not and having the ESH from recovery to turn away from it.  He and I agreed that "self centeredness" was a nasty character defect often only settled thru a 10 step.  Yes there have been times when I made others pay for my pain when I knew a power greater than myself and a sponsor and a program could and would help me elsewise.  Thanks for the shares ((((hugs))))  smile

Here is an idea: go to the app store, look for Al-Anon and get one of the apps. They basically all offer the same materials and besides book readings for 7 dollars you can get life-long access to all = a multitude of speaker tapes, both from Al-Anon and from AA. Both equally helpful when you are in a bind.

I just had a huge root canal with 3 nerves removed and infection in the remaining forth canal and after one day with no pain it came back with a vengeance. Not in the molar so much, but in the surrounding tissues, so I was on pain killers to. Right now (know wood) things are looking up. Two more weeks before the final filling goes in, but at least I am doing better. So I can identify with your predicament!

When my mind does not allow me to concentrate while reading a book I listen to tapes - and here is something else to consider: have your tried getting C2C, the Kindle version on Amazon? Allows you to read it on mobile devices but also on your desktop. Listening to the tapes gives me my own mini meeting and I do this when I am in the car, on a walk, in a waiting room. Makes for so much more value during those activities and takes my mind of things. Sometimes it is just easier that way than having to hold a book and read.

I hope you feel better soon!
