It is with sadness and a heavy heart I let you all know, John Freifeld, founder of MIP, and my brother passed away on Friday Feb 17th, 2017. RIP John Freifeld. Sorry for the loss of your founder and creator of MIP. Debra G.
My condolences also on the loss of your brother. He saved my ass in an online meeting once,by saying something that made me laugh out loud and get myself into perspective, knowing I wasn't alone in the human condition. I live in Australia. So, in his own way, you know, your brother touched peoples lives all around the world as our members are diverse. Sending you comfort.
(((Debra))) - so very sorry for the loss of your brother and our friend here @ MIP. We would not be 'here' if he had not created MIP and my gratitude is beyond words. May he rest in peace always and may you and your family be able to treasure all the good that is John.
Sending you positive thoughts and prayers!

I'm sorry for your loss. John helped me during my darkest times by setting up this forum. Ive met some wonderul people here. This disease has brought me to my knees a few times and I know it's not done with me yet. I've came here with some of my deepest secrets and I've got love and real real understanding. I also think of John's shares and replys to me and he had a down to earth common sense. He once told me that yes I may very well be crazy but that I had graduated from insanity and so I was doing well in this journey. I really liked that. X

Please accept my condolences on the loss of John F. I am grateful beyond words for his accomplishments here online. I have learned so much here and have felt so comfortable here sharing my story, asking my questions and reading what others have to share. This is a very special place and it took a very special man to make it happen. May he rest in peace now.

My condolences to you and all of John's family. I've known him since humble beginning of MIP. I'm grateful that as a insecure newcomer to recovery, he urged and expressed confidence in me to do service as an online Alanon meeting chairperson.
We've lost our family member. John was always excited to tell us about the improvements he was working on to make Miracles in Progress an even better site. He wanted it to be the number one recovery site on the web. It has been for me.
He trusted us with what was on his heart when he shared in meetings and told us funny stories late at night in the chatroom. No one could ever say John was dull or uninspired. He even taught us to cyber dance "the Alanon Wiggle." And when wives with newly sober husbands complained about their behaviors, John would tell them, "You can take the alcohol out of a fruitcake but you still have a fruitcake." He made us smile and laugh during some difficult times. I hope knowing how loved he was here give you comfort. I wish you healing one day at a time. TT

I am so very sorry for your loss; I grieve with you for the loss of John as your brother, and for John as we knew him here at MIP and what he meant for each of us who have come here to heal.
I marvel at his heart, his deep care for others, and his effort to the very end to make a place for others to continue sharing their experience, strength, and hope...so many have benefitted.
As a result of his work and those in the fellowship who have stepped up to ensure that it continues, John's dream will live on and MIP will be a place of healing and recovery. May John rest in peace, and may you be blessed.

RIP John, condolences to you and your family Debra55, although I didn't know him personally, I appreciate all his work and everyone else involved. Al-anon has saved me from insanity and is helping me along the road to getting my head back together.
No news out there...? The family has closed ranks and is doing what it does best... and i am praying for healing through this tough time!
Debra... as you go through all of this... around the MIP boards we have, in our own way dealt wth the loss. John wanted his legacy here
to continue. Everyone here has pitched in... we have all done him proud!
When we know how things are out there I plan to write a eulogy for the ACA board. I want to use as a centrepiece one of John's favourite pieces of music
"Turn The Page" by Pete Seger. I am doing this as much for my own benefit- as for any other reason...
my enduring memory of John is when he came 'to my place'. A camper parked up near a pier in NC.
I have always believed that family comes first... and we, a part of the wider MIP family, can wait...
RIP John, I can never repay you for MIP has saved my sanity. My sincere condolences to your family, may they find comfort in your immeasurable accomplishments.
