The ODAT Reading 2-5-2017

The ODA T reading for February 5 speaks about identifying  how we feel and what we can  do when  we uncover some of our negative qualities.

Working the Steps and attending meetings often allowed me to identify many of my negative attitudes   and see that  they were actually  hurting me by  blocking my positive qualities . The  reading suggests that we must acknowledge these good qualities by  making a daily gratitude and asset list so that we can see and  appreciate these good qualities and can accept that  these qualities  are  going to offset the faults we find and will give us a foundation on which to grow.

. If we recognize that we are kind, tolerant, generous, honest, patient, we must delight in these constructive qualities so that  we can  accept ourselves as a friend. They are mighty allies in eliminating shortcomings, which are  the roadblocks to our serenity.

The purpose of examining our character with  as much honesty and detachment as possible is not to exaggerate or guilt but  to use the goods to overcome our faults.

The prayer is; "let me learn to understand myself first that will occupy me so fully that I will have no time nor thoughts to analyze and criticize the compulsive drinker"

I love the principles of this program . I have leaned to accept myself ,my positive and negative  attributes  because I now have the tools to grow and change and a Higher power to direct my life.

have a lovely Sunday

Thank you Betty for your service, the daily and your ESH. I came to recovery always negative, sad and looking at the glass 'half empty'. It is only by the grace of God, the steps of this program and a loving sponsor that for the most part - that glass is half full. I do believe for me that acceptance and gratitude carry me for a huge portion of my program. When they slip from my spirit, I am armed with the tools to do the heavy lifting and find a new level of love, light, gratitude and acceptance each time.

Grateful for MIP, Al-Anon, Recovery and some lovely sunshine today!! Make it a great day - enjoy the super bowl if you plan to watch (or puppy bowl or kitty bowl)!!

Hotrod--your synopsis on the page of day is so appreciated--really enjoy your take on the tools/principles offered. I love the reference to detaching from our shortcomings too---it took a long time for me not to take them personally. So much shame & blame was in my way but through the step work HP has really lifted it--- so most times I am able to look honestly at myself, my motives and bring self compassion to my slip ups. --thanks again for your ESH on it!
