ODAT readng 1-8-2017

The ODA T reading for January 8 speaks about the time when the alcoholic finally finds sobriety.  It suggests that  we, as Al-Anon members need to overcome the fear and anxiety that maybe this  sobriety will not last. The  reading suggests that we try to maintain our confidence and trust in the process and use prayer to stay connected to HP.

There may be many problems that arise out of sobriety so that it is  important for us to make the most of the benefits from sobriety.  We can do this by  living the Al-Anon program and depend on it to help us whatever problems still occur.

The quote is:" I pray to learn to enjoy the good that each day brings and not to be apprehensive about the future which is in God's hand."

That quote is indeed powerful .  I know that it took me many years to learn to "stay in the moment" and  in the day, not to bring worry and fear into mar the joy and beauty of the present day.
This is  agreat tool to utilize each day---:I need to remember to  stay where  my feet are.

Good reminder. I think, any time I find myself worried that someone else might be "going to do" anything, I am in an unhealthy place and probably avoiding myself and/or whatever action I know I should take (even if that action is nothing at all).
"Stay where my feet are" is a great rule of thumb.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this

Great page...thank you for sharing hotrod, and all for your shares.

I never enjoyed the feeling of negative expectation, of waiting for the 'shoe to drop' and my qualifier to have a setback; I didn't like the negative energy. I didn't know how to avoid that, however, except by distancing myself emotionally to reduce the pain I might feel. What I hoped for occurred, but I locked myself into a negative state of mind, supposedly to keep me from a negative state of mind...ah, insanity...

AlAnon showed me another way, described in this page: One day at a time, be grateful for what is, not what I fear will be tomorrow. This helped me so much in so many ways, as fear and expectation are negative and powerful, sapping my peace and getting in the way of my gratitude.

Grateful for the wisdom, guidance, and fellowship

Thank you Betty for the daily, ESH and your service......this is a great, simple message - yet - it is difficult to remember when we're in the face of uncertainty (for me)....

I view my pre-program style as a perpetual eye-rolling state of reaction. I was rarely if ever in the present moment - often stuck in the past predicting the future and then projecting the future in the worse case scenario mode. My mind still wants to stray away from the present so love any tools that help me come back to the right here and the right now.

I am grateful for the program and for those in my life who work it...It's still mighty cold here but not too cold for a meeting yesterday and today! Love my 'weekend warrior' times with grounded like-minded folks living recovery. It's such a lovely way to end/start the week!

(((Hugs))) - make it a great day!
