12-7-16 One Day at a Time in AlAnon

It's double value day in ODAT: two outstanding quotes to choose from. Both point the way to a peaceful day through patience, warmth, and respect.

The first is in the poetic style of Max Ehrmann:

"Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; listen to others., even the dull and ignorant; they, too, have their story."

And the second, more plainly: "I will not let my inner peace be disturbed by the confusions around me. I will be gentle and tolerant, while maintaining my right to my individuality. I will listen and appreciate, and not judge the source of what I hear."

Reminder: Phrases like these or the Serenity Prayer can align us spiritually for the day, assuring that our focus is on our own behavior. Our serenity and recovery depend on such a healthy perspective.

Love these! I feel myself finding a calm center each time I read over them. So much program in those few sentences. I am going to put them into rotation immediately.

I have long been a fan of the Serenity Prayer, and call on it often in meditation and moments of felt strain or outright crisis. I really like the first as a morning meditation, and the second as an affirmation to use while I am pausing to gather my thoughts before a response.  I have been struggling in my dealings with others and can use all the help I can get

Good Morning Paul Love this powerful reminder as well as quotes. Desiderata is one of my favorite poems.   Protecting my serenity and not engaging in the insanity in the world has become one of the principles I live by.

Prior to program and being other directed and reactive, I did not even know what serenity felt likeaww. After working the steps and finding "that place" within me restored, I love to dwell there and protect myself at all times. I can respond to situations, become angry etc but I quickly pick up my tool and move back to my serene place. Thanks for your service

Good morning all - happy Wednesday. I agree - both of these quotes and/or the Serenity Prayer help to keep me present, centered and focused properly. I truly love my serene place and pitched a tent - plan to stay as long as possible.

It's so easy to allow the distractions of life to pull me away when I am not program-centered. When I do what I've been taught, my days seems to be so much easier/peaceful. Both of these quotes point out for me the true answer to a peaceful day - a spiritually centered life.

I'm grateful for you two, my program and recovery! Today is meeting day for me, however we've got pending weather and I'm considering staying home where I am safe, warm and comfy....no matter what I do or not do today, I feel it will be just fine!

(((Hugs))) - make it a great day folks!

I'm new to Desiderata, Betty, love it! What an enchanting peace...I went through it again later today, watching snow flakes dance their way to the ground as I did. Incredibly peaceful and still...I will work to be more like that in times of crisis.

IAH, I'm with you about the cold, but there is nothing like watching snow fall from the warm confines of a cozy corner. I hope you enjoyed your afternoon, meetup or no. I'm guessing you will be watching tomorrow night's game indoors, brrrr...
