The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Today's quote - "I can learn to avail myself of the immense, inexhaustible power of God, if I am willing to be continually conscious of God's nearness." --- from One Day at a Time in Al-Anon
Today's Reminder - "I may not have everything I want, but today I have everything I need. I will look for evidence of abundance and let it remind me that my Higher Power's love is broad enough to touch all who have the courage to place themselves in his presence."
The reading today discusses the ever-present, ever-lasting and all-encompassing love of our Higher Power - referred to as God in the reading. The writer compares a day at the beach and realizing the similarity between the vast sunshine available to all beach-goers to the vast love our God has for us. No matter how many people seek it, there is more than enough to go around.
The writer discusses that they often feel closest to God when they hear other share about how well a Higher Power has taken care of them. This reading reminds us that no matter where we are, God's love is ready for us and always will be when we seek it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am one who stepped away from faith for a while. In my distorted thinking, I believed I had been left behind to fend for myself and that my issues were far greater than other body else's. I also believed that if I just worked harder/smarter, I could truly beat this disease down as it raised up in my life, my home and in my qualifiers. I am so grateful that others were ready/willing to share their own ESH with relationship to a higher power and a spiritual life. I was only asked to practice suggested things and keep an open mind.
It took me a while to realize keeping an open mind was a miracle. In my way of being before program, I truly thought I knew best and could change others. I rarely opened my mind or actively listened to those around me. When it was suggested I go to meetings, read literature, focus on one day or moment at a time, I tried. It took practice to change me, but each day that I practiced, I found a different level of peace within me.
Looking back, any growth I have known has come from my Higher Power, God. When I am lonely, I feel his presence. When I am scared, I seek his comfort. When I am uncertain or confused, I rely on him to lead me from the shadows of darkness. Lastly, I pray each day to be willing to learn, live well and love all others unconditionally. I am so grateful that I opened my mind and heart just enough to allow the faith within me to grow and the fear within me to subside.
Make it a great Thursday all - it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!!! (((Hugs)))
Good Morning IAM, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this important principle. I can readily identify with walking away from HP and attempting to go it alone because I wanted to force my will and certainly did not want to accept HP's will.
Today, after finally surrendering and accepting my powerlessness, I am conscious enough to be aware, and in retrospect can easily see how much HP was in my life, helping calming, rescuing in the darkest times and today I am glad I can see this and be grateful. Thanks for your service. Enjoy the day.
