Courge to Change Reading 9-3-2016


C2C reading for September 3 speaks about our fantasies and dreams prior to entering  Al-Anon.
 
The reading points out that many would often project and state  some  day I'll do this project or  someday I'll call my friend or someday I'll be happy and take that  trip. We put off our happiness and are willing to wait, just as we waited for the alcoholic to come home  from a binge as well as for  opportunities to simply drop at our doorstep. 
 
We wanted  everybody else to change so we could be happy.   Al-Anon  helps us to see that "today" can be that " someday" . There isn't enough time in the 24 hours to do everything we hope to do but there is time to start making our dreams come true.

Asking HP for guidance and taking smalll step in the direction of our choices, we will be able to accomplish more than we ever could have dreamed

Today I will not wait for approval or a rainy day  or someday to accomplish the things in my life.
 
Tthe quote is from Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe ; "each indecision brings its own delays and days are lost lamenting over lost days.  What you can do or think you can do, begin it. For boldness has magic, power and genius in it."
 
I love this quote  Using alanon tools of staying in the moment and in the day, having a plan a, b and c all help me to work slowly toward my goals.   It works incredibly   well.   I am always amazed when I reach my dream and think oh my how easy it was!!   Naturally  it was not that easy- but it took tiny little steps each day to get there .one moment at a time

I love today's reading. I am a procrastinator (as one of my character defects) and this reading is a good reminder to start today in doing what I say I'll do tomorrow- whether that be step work for my recovery, doing an overdue project, visiting a friend, or starting on a dream/ bucket list wish. I'm thankful for this program, my HP, and the people in this program to help me gain confidence to start setting goals and make the small steps to start accomplishing my dreams. It's a beautiful day here and my fur-baby woke me up early. We walked this morning and I had long sleeves for the first time this year. The sunrise was lovely!!

Today's reading is a great one for reflecting. It seems as if before recovery, I was always in a state of waiting for my own joy and happiness, always putting others issues, wants and needs first. Today, upon awakening, I instead am grateful for another day and do 'my thing'.....my want, needs, program comes first. I am so grateful that Al-Anon showed me how to put me first, and do something each day for my goals, life, happiness, recovery and joy.

I now do service for others and that's when one is in need and I am able. No motives, pure and simple. I was dreading going to the store today (forgot some things needed) as I prefer to go during the week when it's less crowded. After we walked, I left my shoes on, got in the car and just got it done! It was perfect - not crowded, fresh and plenty and a peaceful experience.

I can also be a procrastinator so at times, I think about the Nike tagline, "Just Do It" - I am now free to nap, garden, read and watch the Royals tonight.

Great quote too - makes so much sense to me!

I love the knowledge that small steps are powerful. They are the ones we can incorporate into lifelong habits. It starts with small steps.
I have seen that in cleaning the house, in changing eating habits, my selection of friends, and so many other big effects that happened with small changes.
