I am very grateful for my fabulous Al-anon program today. I made the mistake of eating a lot of sugary food yesterday afternoon. I normally eat very healthily. Well my ISM's went into overdrive!
Around AH and the world in general. I lost the plot and went nuts and manic for a while.
A reminder to me to avoid sugar like an A needs to avoid A.
Calm Lady - great share and I can so relate! I have a huge love of sugar and all things sugar and it does affect my mood and my attitude! I have to remind myself that my best possible self-care is being as balanced as possible - in life, in food, in general.
Perfect reminder for me today to take care of me and let others be as they need/should be!
(((Hugs))) to all!

Learning about the direct relationship between sugar and alcohol was tremendous for me and I haven't returned to alcohol and now moving away from refined sugar also. Yes I would get goofy after raiding a bakery and then ice cream. "Admitted I was powerless". Over drive for real. Great Post ((((hugs))))
I am powerless over sugar too, Jerry. Thank you for putting it in those terms. I hadn't thought of it that way before but of course now it hits me in the face.
I am powerless over alcohol (am 6 years sober), over sugar and over other people, places and things.
Great relief to say that. Loud and proud.
As a recovering A, my best foods are protein, fruits, veggies and more protein! Helps tremendously. I get zero alcohol cravings on these foods. Sugar and white carbs, grains cause cravings for more.

It is insanity for me to even think in your recovery picture as while I have made life changing steps on all levels I will always have to be on alert as the chemical and addiction often just comes by to say hello, wondering how I am doing. It no longer begs me to come home or back or to let it stay overnight just "this one time" it is very very cunning power and baffling as you know. It has no respect for the Roman Numeral on the chip on my car key chain cause it also is taking the relationship one day at a time. My greatest deterrent isn't even my diet. I've needed help with that and my HP just got me off of Blue Bunny Ice Cream (addiction) with a real blue bunny. (posted earlier). My greatest deterrent is the 12th step....working with others is what works for me and of course working with my own sponsor.

I hope you keep coming back. ((((hugs)))))
Sugar creates sugar cravings in me. Like alcohol cravings, that deep black pit that cannot every be filled or satisfied. I don't get sugar cravings unless I eat sugar. This sets the cycle off. Again just like alcohol.
Gosh I laughed out loud at your ice cream addiction. That is my sugar addiction. Ice cream is my one and only binge food! How strange that you have the same. Mine specifically is Ben&Jerrys caramel swirl. That is the only one I eat.
The ironic thing is that I never ate ice cream before i quit drinking but it was suggested to me as a helpful w to get through early quit. Which indeed it was. Replaced one addiction with another!!
I saw your cute blue bunny avatar. But I don't know of ice cream by that name. We don't have it here in England.
Hugs back to you.

I hear you on the sugar. I cannot have much sugar in my life, if at all, because it really makes me sick and the next morning I feel like I have a hangover.
I allow myself one dessert a week, when I go out to restaurant once a week with a friend of mine. We usually share a dessert. I get my treat and don't seem to require anymore during the week.
However, I probably would be better off without anything.
Lol. Oh yes, Pat, I get a sugar hangover too. Headache, dry mouth, aching joints!!!
Yes, Miranda, it is totally my feel better food too. But then I pay the price! I eat it straight from the box!!! Lol. I sit with the box (500ml) and a spoon and it all magically disappears.
