emergency question

Hi,

My girlfriend lives out of state.  Well, we actually broke up yesterday and she is apparently drinking all day today.

I have been in touch with her friend who has been in touch with her and she told her friend that she has been drinking and can't stop.

Her friend was around when she had her first major issue, and that led to some really dangerous, unsafe behavior.  She and I are concerned.  Do you think it's fair to call 911?  If not, what might you recommend?

Thanks!

Hi I have called 911 when concerned over a similar situation. I asked for a wellness check and they did just that. Positive thoughts and prayers on the way.

Yes calling 911 is ok. Like hotrod said just ask for a wellfare check.

However, I would caution you that you really can't control what she can and can't do. If she is safe even if she is drinking that is all you can ensure by calling 911. You can reach out and tell her you care about her and her safety, and be a support person if she chooses to call you for help. But that is about it. Perhaps encourage her to reach out to AA or find some times for local meetings for her.

i am so sorry you are going through this and see someone you obviously care about making harmful choices.

I would agree with Hotrod, you can always ask for a wellness check. I actually had to do this with my AH last year and the police/firefighters brought him to a local hospital for an overnight. You never want to be in the position of "what if". If you think she is a danger to herself you should do this. Sending you positive thoughts and prayers.
