Business mtg timing?

Is there a protocol for how soon to start business

meeting? Is asking for 10-15 minutes start time

too much to ask Of members?

i like to converse, greet new members, give hugs

whatever i go for me to get better and to give it

forward. Thats my agenda, I am the Librarian too.

Well there are two members that attend board mtgs

and they want prompt starts. I feel steamrolled by one.

Today one member spoke about having it in the announcement

about starting right up and have others put stuff away. This

is not the first time this subject has come up. I do not agree.

I said that it is controlling and i will not be controlled

and NO its not going into the minutes. Am i out of line?

The other member that does that too was not there today.

She ruffles feathers with her abruptness If you are still

talking she will tell them to take it upstairs.

To me this is Alanon, i had stuff today to do too i gave

myself extra time for planning My morning and early

afternoon.

I did call an elder and asked her opinion on the issue

she did not think it was bad to wait 15 minutes Usually

everyone is long gone by then.

I think our meetings are finally healthy without too

many or too much controlling Going on. It was very

sick from that Problem.

Hugs

Mirandac

Our business meetings are once per month and are scheduled to start promptly @ 1pm. The follow our weekly meeting which starts at noon. The regular meeting is scheduled to go for one hour (weekly) and the business meeting is scheduled to go for 15 minutes (monthly). We do our absolute best to start on time but we've also done a bit of greeting before the regular meeting.

So - as much as I also enjoy seeing others, socializing, giving hugs, etc. I am one who likes things on time. Those who want can talk, visit, hug, etc. after the meeting which happens for those who arrive at start time/close to start time.

I don't consider wanting a meeting to start on time as controlling. I also am flexible enough that if it starts a few minutes late because of visiting, it's OK. Starting 15 minutes late would put me over the edge and if it happened consistently, I would either stop attending business meetings or I would show up late for them.

That's just me - I'm kind of a Type A person though so ... may view this different than others. Our meetings and business meetings are very structured. I am OK with this as it keeps us focused on why we are together. We have a pot luck about every 2 months which is free visiting time and great for fellowship and morale. There is socializing before and after our meetings by some, but not by all - some are on lunch hour from work...so - it's not always easy to meet everyone's needs/wants which is why I prefer the structure...

Thank You For your reply IAH, She rubs me
The wrong way. She is like a steam roller. Are
You serious 15 minute business mtgs on the
Hour. We do not dilly dally yet no timer is on.

We have had so many controlling People that
ran every thing it is nice just To be natural,
normal and relaxed. I dont see The big rush.

Most will not even stay for The business meeting
we try to encourage them to.

We are a small group 6-20 in the country and

yes if board members needed to get back to

work its understandable a time constraint.

i guess i need a break :)

(((( hugs))))

Mirandac-- My group starts promptly and has a 10 minute business break half way through. We hold an official business meeting once a month at that break time which is announced a few weeks before and topic selected. That business meeting last for 20 minutes.  People are encouraged to connect after the meeting.

Thanks Betty its something to think about,
We Copy a very healthy meeting now. We
Should find out how they do that too.

We have a step mtg and business mtg
On the first friday, we decided to stay with
That and not change that format.

I just love seeing the growth, the new members
Coming back and them being welcomed and
Encouraged. Its does as much for me as it does
Them or someone in pain willing to share and
Keep coming back.

I do plan on calling the member tonight and
Offer amends. Since starting recovery i am not
Always the best around controlling people. I stay
Clear of them if i have a choice wether business
or pleasure.

i just did call her and gave her an amends she

was all right about it.

I know everyone is different  on these issues i have

served on a library board for 5 years and we built a

new library. That was enough for me.

thank you for your love and support

(((((( betty))))
