I think the message in that phrase is that everyone you come across in this program may not be your "cup of tea", but it is the steps, traditions and concepts that make this program, not the personalities of those you meet in the program. If you read and listen and learn regardless of how you feel about who said it and take what you like and leave the rest, you will find help here.

The priniciples that i accepted as the result of embracing the alanon program were: Trust in a Power greater than myself, life must be lived with humility one day at a time, without judging, critiquing , gossiping about or blaming anyone. By becoming teachable and by keeping an open mind, being honest in my communications , i accept my powerlessness over people, places and things. I live by these principles each day, For years, if I liked you, I did not have principles.- If I did not like you I manufactured principles that I held you to but not myself .
Today I live up to my principles regardless of the behavior of another That I feel is placing principles above personalities.
