My company decided to run a thorough background check on all employees. Mine turned up something that shouldn't be there. I haven't been fired - but I can't go to work until it gets straightened out. Who knows how long that will take? I can't afford to miss much work - just missing today is going to make it difficult to pay all my bills. I am so beyond frustrated. Just when I get everything in my life all straightened out, everything comes crashing down again.
Around 4 years ago, I was charged with something I didn't do. There wasn't any evidence that I did do it. I had a public defender who wanted to take it to trial. However, they offered me no jail time and I would be on felony probation for 2 years then it would be dropped to a misdemeanor. If I took it to trial and lost, they were going to sentence me to 5 years in prison. I was terrified. I've never been in any kind of trouble - I've never even gotten a speeding ticket! So, I took their deal. Felony probation wouldn't affect my life - I don't even know any felons and basically, I just couldn't break the law - which I was already very good at. So, I went to the court date to get it dropped and instead they dismissed the whole thing and expunged it from my record. However, I was in a different county and apparently the counties didn't communicate so my record from county 2 shows nothing but it still shows up on county 1. County 2 realized that I should have never been charged to begin with.
So, today my boss calls and says I'm on leave for now - not terminated. I tried explaining and he said there was some kind of process to go through.
Sorry, this kind of stuff seems to happen all the time. We thought our wife was charged as a felony on her second DUI, with it reducing to misdemeanor on two successful years of probation, that is what the judge said at sentencing. After the two years of probation, we found out she was never charged with the felony, just the misdemeanor. We thought she had been a felon the whole time, she was barred to work with my son in school due to it, avoided shooting range due to no contact with a firearm for a felon, etc.
I hope this all works out for you as quickly as possible!
It's so stressful. I spent the day applying for more jobs just in case. No harm preparing for the worst. And, I've been thinking about getting a second job anyway. So, it can't hurt.
