Hope for Today April 5

Good morning everyone-

Today's reading is about our acronym HALT:  are we Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired.  For me this has always been such a good and direct way to check in with myself about how I am feeling. I still have difficulty being direct -- especially with myself!  I am reminded of my teenaged daughter who will sometimes admit (at top volume): 'I am so sad and I really don't know why!!!'  I can appreciate her sentiment on that and HALT is a great way for me to try and find the source of any uneasy feelings I may be having.

As I continue working on my recovery I also realize that everything except Hunger can be alleviated through meetings, readings, sharing, listening and the guidance of my HP.  I am thinking of we take care of ourselves with these basic needs, all the other good things that our possible can be realized as well.

I hope everyone has a great Tuesday-- it seems that here in the Northeast Mother Nature has some tricks up her sleeve!

Mary

Hi Mary Thanks for posting this important message. HALT is a wonderful tool that reminds me to "Keep the focus on myself", check my "Vital signs" and then take an appropriate action. Love how you pointed out that alanon tools can be used to address the lonely angry and tired issues.

I smiled when you recounted how your daughter is on top of her feelings and will announce them loudly. It is great that she feels safe enough to feel her feelings and understands the importance of expressing them.
Thanks for your service and have a lovely day.

Hey Mary - thanks for the daily and thanks for your service & ESH. I just wrote about H.A.L.T. on another thread and do truly understand it now - much better than when I started. More often than not, I can redirect myself if/when one or more of these apply. I also love how your daughter expresses herself - bless her honesty and boy...I can relate!

Using our program and tools for me has been paramount in my journey. So very grateful that progress is great enough for me today, and I can actually check myself and understand more about me and what makes me tick.

(((Hugs))) to all - have a great day!!
