feeling sad but hopeful today

I have not been on this site for quite a long time but find it necessary today to ask for support. For those of you that remember me I have a son who is in recovery for going on 5 years now. For that I am extremely grateful. I have a younger son who is in the military and lives with his wife and 2 children. I am visiting them now. I have been here for close to a month and will be leaving on Monday. My son is s binge drinker. He thinks he drinks out of boredom. He won't admit he has a problem most of the time. He has drank 2 times since I have been here. He wants his wife to accept his drinking as it is only occasionally. She cannot do that and I couldn't either. I have given her this site information and told her if she is ready to post to make her user name tomo. She is Japanese but speaks and understands English. I took her to an alanon meeting when she was visiting this past summer. I think she felt some comfort there but was worried about not getting the same kind of support at a Japanese alanon. She had nit been to one yet. The good news is my HP was at work here yesterday morning. They have been here for a long time and regularly get emails from the base where my son is. Never before did that email contain information about an alanon meeting. We were both so surprised to see that they advertised the day and time of alanon meetings on base. I get goose bumps just writing this out. This could not have come at a better time. I don't know for sure if she will go but I know God put that there for a reason. So...if you see a post from her be patient. I don't think she realizes that he will nit be able to conquer this demon on his own. Love...Gail

Good support effort Gail...we do the best with what we have and then turn the rest over to HP.  That Al-Anon  would be available on a base is good news isn't it?  The military has a huge problem with alcoholism.  Keep coming back.  ((((hugs)))) smile

Gail - that is one of those "HP moments" in how I view life.....so glad that you (and she) saw the meeting notice - good to 'see you' and glad to hear recovery is going well for your other son.

Take care and come back again soon - (((hugs)))
