a poem

I started thinking about fear and risk in my life and I wrote this poem. I thought I would share it here as this came out of reflecting on my al-anon tools and looking at my resistance to making decisions in my life. maybe it will spark something for someone.

remember,

"Safety Third"

my dear ones

in the darkness compasses point

where there is no road

no solid ground

without measure

without knowing

we leap

our bodies may ache

when we fall

but our hearts

demand

we LEAP

Thanks for sharing! It's a bit deep for me, but lovely to contemplate. It sounds like you process creatively - keep going and keep sharing...

Ha ha yes - i was feeling a bit heavy when I wrote it, fear holding me back from the things I want most.

(((Tara))) - I have to give background....I went to 12 years of Catholic Schools....that was a hefty experience, which I could not stand at the time! I have learned as an adult to be grateful for my education - it's been a gift in my career/adult life.

However, we spent a whole semester (half the darn year) in HS analyzing poetry/dissecting it & sentences/etc. So - poetry for me is a trigger of sorts making me project that I am going to have to think harder than desired.......ha.ha.ha.ha....

I enjoy poetry but it does take me back to those classrooms with the nuns and the shenanigans of timeframe...

Have a great day!!

I like it, thanks for sharing it.
Also just noticed your name; I had a quiz on medicinal herbs today, ha.
Now I have the rolling stones singing dandelion in my head. It's not the worst thing that could happen, lol

Love the poem. Thank you. Question (from a relative newcomer): "Safety Third"???

Safety third is a turn on "safety first" (maybe an old Girl Scout motto) Not bad advice exactly, but safety and happiness in my situation now are dependent upon me taking some risks and doing scary things. So, safety is no longer my first priority it's third.
