a positive surprise.

hello friends,

It has been a turbulent week.  I had asked my husband to leave.  he did.  Came back for one night for a job interview.  the next day we had a horrible fight where I said I was completely done.  I said to get his own place and a job and a urine test for sobriety or he couldn't come home.

So a few days went by.  I got a message that he had called 811 which is our local health help line.  He got admitted into a treatment centre.  Physical detox followed by social detox.

I was really shocked as he wouldn't even admit he had a problem.  But I guess a few days of drinking isolated and alone shifted things.

I'm very happy he chose to do this.  This is the first admittance of any kind that he has a problem.

I'm trying to be optimistic but I can't help but think that a week or two can't cure years... can it?  I wish and hope for the best.  I think it will be very hard.

He still, however, maintains that he should keep this a secret from his (extremely dysfunctional and some members alcholic, not acknowledged) family.  is this ok??

anyway, this has been a roller coaster of a month.  all new to me.

thanks for any comments and I read everything and take everything in - truly appreciated.

Great News Rachael Now that he has taken that step it would be great if you could continue your recovery journey with face to face meetings in your community. The support of like minded fellows is extremely important.

As for keeping his recovery secret I would honor his request--  Alcoholics"Anonymous" is just that( first names only) because of the Public's detrimental response to the disease.

Positive thoughts on the way.

Hi Rachael,

That's wonderful news for him. It is also said that it actually becomes harder after they get help. So I really encourage you to step up your face to face meetings and really look to keep the focus on you and let him do what he needs to do to commit fully to his own recovery.

This is not a one stop deal it's a life long issue which is why it's so much easier to break it down day by day, sometimes it's min by min just to keep it simple.

Good luck and prayers to you both,

S :)

Rachael - glad he's made a choice to try recovery! Now - it's your time. Choose to seek recovery for you while he's distracted inpatient with recovery.

Positive thoughts and prayers for you both...
