Courage to Change (C2C) 2/17/2016

The Courage to Change reading for today discusses how limited our vision is and how we can become fixated on only the outcomes 'we' can imagine.  This is often what drives us to seek to believe in a power greater than ourselves, a higher power, who is not limited by the same logic.  The author points out that some of the most wondrous events have followed or resulted from what we would define as disasters.

The reading suggests that faith takes practice, and our fears can stand in the way.  We can get lost in our own limited thinking, which limits our view of solutions.  Often this also has us doubting a higher power and what help HP can provide us.  While our program suggests prayer on a regular basis, it's really helpful when we see no other way out.

Through our efforts to pray, we demonstrate a willingness to accept help from beyond ourselves.  Time after time, the help needed is provided when we are open to receiving it.  The writer suggests that he/she knows now that in the bleakest of situations, miracles can happen if he/she turns his/her will and life to a higher power.

The daily reminder discusses our part in our relationship with a Higher Power.  We have to be willing to receive help and we have to ask for it.  Practicing turning to a higher power for help with small, everyday matters gives us the tools to use for more difficult situations.

The quote for today - "In the hour of adversity be not without hope For crystal rain falls from black clouds." ~~Persian poem

When I arrived, I was a 'self-will' kind of gal.  My pain, fear and shame was so great that I truly felt the answers were well beyond my knowledge, experience and abilities.  I had a faith base when I arrived, but my ability to pray and meditate was very limited.  My mind would race and I often felt helpless and hopeless.

All that was asked of me was an open mind and an open heart.  I practiced this in the beginning and focused on listening to the ESH of others.  Over time, I could see genuine joy and serenity in many and I wanted that too.  The 'secret' was out - they had found a spiritual journey that gave them freedom of self will and reliance on a power greater than themselves.

I too wanted that and began to practice prayer and meditation often/always when troubled.  I am a work in progress and continue to grow and learn.  I do believe today in a power greater than me, and I do turn things over time and time again.  My attitude and outlook has changed so drastically, I feel as if I am a different person than I used to be.

Thank you MIP and thank you Al-Anon for all the tools I've been given.

Happy Hump Day to all!
