I'm Trying - but its getting harder

My AH has been working to stay sober since April, with a relapse in August. He swears that he hasn't had a drink since I caught him last, in August. I'm trying really hard to believe him. Although, nights like last night is making it very difficult. He will have a night or two each week - usually the same day as his therapy appointment - where he gets angry and unbelievablely delirious. He will do things repeatedly such as check the dog's food bowl. He will ask them same question over and over again. He even talks really nasty under his breath as he goes about his business. He'll says things like "my wife hates me" "she's just a simple b!&@$" "the kids wish I was dead"....I could go on and on and on... It takes every bit of me to stay, stay focused on the kids, and get thru the night. I just can't believe he hasn't had a drink. I have talked to him about it when he is obviously sober. He stands by his statement that he hasn't had a drink. He says he is tired and stressed which brings on the behavior - I don't believe it. If that were true he would get the physical I have suggested to ensure he is healthy. Sigh. I guess I don't have a question. I just needed to vent. Thank you for reading.

I don't believe it either. Alanoners are typically experts at detecting alcohol drinking and lies. I am not sure you need to extend any effort at "believing" him. Maybe focus more on what is best for you even given his behavior and the likelihood your intuitions are correct.

((earlybird))) I agree with Pink Chip, these behaviors are bizarre and taking care of yourself is the most important. Prayers and positive thoughts on the way.
