Courage to Change Reading 12-19

The C2C reading for December 19 speaks about alcoholism being a threefold disease.  It affects the person in a  physical, emotional and spiritual  manner. Because we have been affected by someone else's alcoholism it is so very  important that we check on our own  physical, emotional and spiritual well-being on a daily basis.  Alanon offers this support.

The reading asks us to  check to make sure that we are eating properly, and getting enough sleep, visiting the doctor for checkups and exercising. We need also ask ourselves if we   make time for prayer, and meditation, as well as breaking the isolation by attending Al-Anon meetings.

The  reminder state that  simply by taking inventory of our self care habits, we are beginning to improve them. The quote is from George Bernard Shaw:" Better keep yourself clean and bright. You are the window through which you must see the world"

Great reminder for this busy time of year.

Thanks Betty for the daily! I remember how frustrated I was when I was 'offered' the Al-Anon program. I did not think I was wrong nor did I really want to look at me and/or work on me. It's so easy to sit and judge the alcoholic and assume everything is their fault and life would be better if only they would stop. It's just not that easy - and we play a part in the disease through our own bias, outlook, attitude and actions/reactions.

Had I not embraced Al-Anon and worked the steps to the best of my ability, I would never have been open and able to see my part. Knowing how I act/react to this disease has put me into a position to do things different/better and to become a stronger, wiser woman. I am so grateful each and every day that I did find Al-Anon and embraced what was there for me - fellowship, growth, change.

I love the quote - I like that I might be a window for me to see out of!!

(((Hugs))) Betty - your service is appreciated!
