The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
C2C reading for December 7 speaks about learning to be truly "good to ourselves". The reading points out that, prior to program, we may have thought being good to ourselves meant that we could eat what we wanted, buy everything we wanted to, sleep only a few hours and avoid anything that wasn't fun;. For me I wanted to smoke 3 packs of cigarettes a day without the consequences
When we think about these attitudes ,we realize that the consequences of these actions were not good and it was a waste of a life.
Al-Anon gives us tools so that we can really be good to ourselves in a far more challenging manner. By attending a few meetings a week, reading our literature, taking time out to talk to God,we try to make our serenity the most important thing in our lives. Wecan then enjoy wholesome food, exercise and learn to handle money in a conscientious way and stop smoking completely.
The reminder suggests that we deserve to make choices that let us feel good about ourselves. It may take a while to see the results but I am building a life that promises, health and self-esteem. It's worth the wait .
The quote is from George Elliott; "the strongest principle of growth lies in human choice".
Knowing that I had choices, seeing them and actually choosing to" respond "and not react was such an amazing gift of program.
Today's reading is great for grounding me during this busy time of year. In the past, I guess I didn't have enough stress living with the disease, as I would also over-commit during the holiday season. I am so grateful for the gift of choice this program has given me and the tools of Yes & No being complete sentences.
It has taken me a long while to learn that I need to live my life my way, for my health/future. Living for others, doing for others and thinking for others just put me into a deep funk often, and I now know it doesn't have to be like that. I can take care of me first and then be of service to others.
So grateful for this program and thank you Betty for the daily and your ESH!!

I run..running keeps me sane..or as sane as I can be lol..I leave a problem at each mile..and by the time I'm done I either have a solution or forgot what it was lol
When my sister was in ICU I would run before going to the hospital..when she died I went to the gym instead of going to wake aka folks getting drunk..
I let NOTHING get in the way of my time..I deserve it...People who know me know that from 4:30 until 6:00 3 days a week you can't reach me..Whatever happened can wait..there isn't anything I can do ...
