Courage to Change Reading for 11-12

The C2C reading for November 12 speaks about applying the tools of Al-Anon to our everyday life. It uses the example of watching and really listening to  people in Al-Anon meetings as they share on the  difficult problems that they face.

By uncritical listening,  we  can  see how they apply  the slogans, steps, sponsorship to learning this new way of life so that we too can find the serenity that they have.

The reading goes on to point out the building of a useful and fulfilling life is not easy. Al-Anon gives us tools that will help us to be more effective in living that life so that progress will be assured.

The quote is from Francis DeSales; "you learn to speak by speaking, to study by studying to run by running to work by working and just so you learn to love God and man, by loving, Begin as a mere apprentice and the very power of love will lead you on to become a master of the art."  What a promise
I love the powerful tools in Al-Anon that have given me the ability to define my principles and the ability to live by them. For years I had principles that I held others to but gave my self permission to ignore " just because "  Today  this is  not so  and I have  serenity and peace that I had never known.

Thanks Betty for the daily and the gr8 ESH! I can say that it's so refreshing to just stop, look and listen in life today. Before the program, it seems my active living skills were severely lacking...I spent the time I should have been listening working to formulate what I was going to say. I now know that no matter what I respond with and/or how quickly I respond - it doesn't reflect on my smarts, knowledge, etc.

It took me many years to realize that there is something to be learned in everything I see, hear, say or do. What a gift. I still at times 'drift' while listening, but am slowly getting better.

Have a super day and know that your wisdom and service are greatly appreciated!!
