The C2C reading for November 11 speaks about the insanity of the disease of alcoholism. It defines the word insanity as; "doing something the same way over and over and expecting different results.
I can certainly identify with this action, because I did this continually - I thought my way was the right way and I could not see any other action to take t I was stuck in the insanity of repeating unworkable tools.
The reading goes on to quote Step Three. That suggests that we make the decision to turn our will and life over to the care of God as we understood him. If we can get to this point. It can be a turning point in our lives and in our programs. It means we are willing to relinquish control and to keep an open mind and become teachable. When we are finally willing to admit that our will does not work and running in circles is a waste of time we can then decide to reach out to a Power Greater than ourselves.
The reading goes on to state that we many times we seee the alcoholic as being irrational and self-destructive, but we should be able to look at ourselves and see we have been just as irrational.. If today we can let go of insisting upon our will, we will make it commitment to sanity.
The quote is from As we understood; "though no one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new end."
Thank you Al-Anon for the tools to restore me to sanity
Thank you Betty! Yes, the insanity of Alcoholism. I was just as insane as my X, sometimes worse............. The sad part is I didn't even know that I was insane. I kept trying and trying, getting sicker and sicker. Pain is a great motivator. But, it brought me here. I'm grateful for The Program and tools of Alanon.
I really like that quote - and how true is it? If I want a different experience, I have to take different action. I can't change what's happened already but I can certainly be an active participant in making today and each day after different and hopefully better.
Today's reading is a spot on for me. I too appreciate Al-Anon and all the gifts I've been given. Thank you Betty for your service and the daily!
