ODAT 10-22

The ODAT reading for October 22 speaks about examining our own motives and understanding our own drives.

Great topic and one I never undertook prior to program.  The reading  points out that we are asked to do this so to to correct the destructive habits that we have developed which  hamper  our  recovery and interfere with our happiness.  It  goes on to point out that the search for "self understanding" is extremely difficult but not impossible to achieve. We can learn a lot about ourselves if we have the courage to face our real motives without attempting to deceive  ourselves.

The reading  urges  us not to just  concentrate on the negative aspects of our attitudes and actions-- it asks that we also note our  good qualities,.  We   must recognize them  so as to  discover the powerful  constructive  attitudes that we can build upon. We can do this with humility by realizing that all our good qualities are God-given, and that will bring out true humility.

The quote is from Walt Whitman; "I am larger, better than I thought, I did not know I held so much goodness."
Powerful  and wondeful thought.  One I like   to reflect upon

Thanks Betty for the daily - this reading reminds me that while my intent was positive or good, my methods and motives were fear-based. I did so many things and said so many things before this program that upon reflection were truly beyond crazy. Upon reflection, fear-based reactions were often very selfish. I wanted things the way I felt they should be in my time-frame....

I've gotten so much better at using PAUSE to reflect before action. Especially if I am feeling uncomfortable in a situation. I love that quote - before the program, all that I am and all that I knew were mostly directed at things I could not control or change. Today, I choose to use my gifts for positive efforts as best as possible and for seeking peace/serenity in my life and for those around me!

(((Hugs))) to you and happiness for us all - that's my hope - just for today!
