My sweet family

It is so nice to be with my son and wife. My daughter in law is very special to me, and very understanding to my situation. she too suffer with anxiety/panic disorder so she really understands, she also grew up with and AF. I have explained the disease and the 3 C's to her, and she is starting to have a little bit better understanding of that. Today this is what she shared with me on fb.

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they'd be asked the "half... empty or half full" question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: "How heavy is this glass of water?"

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn't change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."

She continued, "The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed incapable of doing anything."

Remember to put the glass down.

The first thing I ever did right in my life was my son. Then He in turn found this wonderful woman. the next right thing I did was to find my new family Al Anon, and the third right thing was to face my travel fear and come here to visit.

Thank you to all my family here.

Debra

Thank you Broken.  I love this analogy.  I have been holding my glass for a year.  No wonder I feel broken.

Love this! So very true, I have been holding my glass now for a year and broken is such a powerful word with so much meaning! Broken is exactly how I have felt for so long, I never thought anyone would understand the meaning of how that felt. You have to detach to stop feeling broken!
