Hi Debb, For many years my first things have been: Reciting the Serenity prayer as well as the 3rd Step when I wake. That sets my day and I trust HP will direct my path .
Thank you Debb! Good reminder. I need to remember each day to surrender to my HP(God). That my job today is to do His Will and not mine. To remember that this is His show and I'm to play the role He assigns me. That relieves me from the overwhelming responsibility I once had that led to my days be very frustrating and stressful. It was all an illusion. I thought I had the power to force results and run the show. The Show did not come off so well. God doesn't need my help today, but I certainly need his.
My brain has to put Keep it Simple with First Things First. Otherwise, the controlling part of my brain starts my day with praying for God's will and then making a list that no human could ever accomplish in a month let alone one day....
I am a planner and there is good and bad in that. I love, love, love that you brought balance into this as that's been one of my glaring defects for a long, long while.
First Things First for me suggests I can make plans but like Mike says, leave God in the driver's seat.
Thanks Debb as always for your ESH and the lovely thread.

I love that slogan and when I would get obsessive with my thoughts my sponsor would also always ask me, "B, what's the next RIGHT thing to do for you?" That always brought me back to the here and now and I was then able to put 'first things first'.
thank you, Debb, for sharing!

I liked the last line you typed... ACT with balance rather than REACT to crisis. So often when I feel overwhelmed I find myself REACTING. That's letting a situation control me and my day and my perspective. Keeping first things first in my day means choosing my priorities, acting upon what I can change and leaving the rest. I will take the first things first and then move on to the rest how I need to.
