C2C reading the September 4 speaks about what happens when we begin to let go of our anger and worry and stop focusing on everyone but ourselves.
The reading suggests that many of us find that we are in increasing calmness of mind and have a great deal of extra time.It also points out that we know how to live in crisis but it takes a great deal of adjustment to become comfortable with the stillness.
The price of serenity was the quieting of the constant mental chatter that had taken up so much time. Suddenly we have lots of time on our hands and we wonder how to fill it.
Being more and more serene as a result of working the Al-Anon program I was surprised to find myself still grabbing onto old fears as if I wanted to remain in crisis-- That was because I didn't know how to feel safe unless I was mentally busy. When I worried I felt involved and then somewhat in control.
The reading states that as an exercise our sponsor might suggest that we try to maintain inner stillness even when we feel scared or doubtful. How do we do this By prayer, and with the slogans repeated over and over within our minds. When we do so, we can reassure ourselves again and again that we are safe, in the care of a power greater than ourselves.
The reading assures us that today we know that sanity and serenity are gifts we have received from our efforts, and faith.
Today's reminder::" today I will relish my serenity. I know that it's safe to enjoy it.
The quote is from in English prayer; "bestill and know that I am with you".
I can safely say that I can maintain my serenity even in the face of the complete insanity of this disease because I know for sure that HP will give me the courage and the wisdom I need to fa any situation
The 11th Step says it all:" Pray only for knowledge for His will for us and the Power to carry it out. I read that to mean that HP does not give me anything He does not give me the power to accomplish. Thank you alanon.
Thanks Betty for the daily and your ESH! I love today's reading as with so many others, it clearly points out the way to get from point A to point B. What I've learned in this program is that peace and serenity are an option for all who choose to seek it. If we change our thinking and attitudes through steps, prayer and meditation, we get 'there'. When we slip, we can return there by doing what is set forth in this program.
I have had a few extremely busy weeks and have many more to follow. It seems that when I stray from my healthy and self-care habits, it's so much easier for me to become anxious and then consider 'reacting' to people, places and things. So with the many things going on, I'm working to refine my daily activities in the hopes of getting back into my groove.
It's not bad or drama things - it's all good things! Just business that is pulling at my time which can affect my peace and serenity!
BTB - Back to basics and the 11th Step is such a great tool to help recenter me. I too thank Al-Anon for the many gifts available to us.
