What things do you find helpful (sayings, slogans, thoughts, activities, etc) for staying in the moment? I still get very intense moments of anxiety where I do the "what ifs" and freak out...I can often bring myself to stay in the moment but at times I still have trouble doing so. Thanks in advance
Hi Living508! Staying in the moment is essentially being mindful. Just focus on you and what is happening right at those moments, the scenery, what you are doing, etc. Do not think about the past or the future only what is in front of you right at that moment.
These two you may like:
"I dont worry about tomorrow because God has already been there and He has set the stage."

Just For Today: The slogan, Just For Today tells us that things are more manageable when we deal with and live in the present. Things that seem way too difficult to manage long term may seem more manageable if we deal with them just for today. We can move forward in small steps rather than be overwhelmed by trying to change everything at one time. This is described further in the Al-Anon pamphlet, Just For Today. Let It Begin With Me.
Hope I helped .. {{HUGS}}

I find sharing what's going on works best for me. It can share with my higher power by using the Serenity Prayer, plan on getting to an additional Alanon meeting (online is especially handy), journal my feelings or post here.
I find yoga to be helpful too. The concentrated breathing is a stress reliever and paying attention to my instructor as we do poses keeps me present. Afterwards, I'm in a peaceful place and feel proud of myself for giving myself this ME time. When I began this practice, I was hyperconscious of everyone and every thing, especially noise around me. I was told that with time I would grow to be so centered that I would transition from pose to pose on my mat with no awareness of others. A few years later, I've reached that place and love it.
I try to practice. It's really so simple. I can take a deep breath anytime. If I'm in some way not feeling balanced, I close my eyes, breathe my higher power in deeply then release by breathing out whatever is weighing heavy on my mind or heart. I can go to this serenity place any time.
When I was new, I created a physical serenity place at home and filled it with the things that gave me the most comfort. I still enjoy that but I need these triggers less for emotional comfort now. (with the exception of my CAL literature)
My higher power is portable. I can take hp wherever I go. Wishing you serenity and contentment. ((hugs)) TT

I am one who takes action - either mindful - such as prayer & meditation or physical ... take a walk or clean a closet or vacuum a room or do a load of laundry! I am a visual person - if I 'see' progress, I 'feel' progress. It's a me thing and I can always find a way, big or small, to make a difference. Service is also very helpful for me - as easy as picking up sticks in my yard + my neighbors (she's currently sick) or going to the doggie jail and walking or playing with a pup (volunteer).
I've become a KLUV music person - not sure about the letters but it's all upbeat, christian and positive. I was a rock-n-roller for my entire life until the past 3-4 years. Switched over and rarely go back...
Keep posting here and keep sharing and exploring. It's a practice for progress thing to me - hope that works for you too!

I have been thinking about getting into yoga. I often wonder if the extreme yogis are individuals who could qualify to be in al anon. my best friend chooses yogi over al anon (her words)...i bet the two combined would be very healing.
There's a reading in one of the daily readers where the person grounds themselves by saying whatever they are doing that given moment. e.g. I am in the shower, I am washing the dishes etc which I find incredibly useful to get back into my body from drifting off into what ifs.
