The C2c reading for August 3rd speaks about our use of denial and about how to look into the past without staring.
It suggests that when we first found Al-Anon we may have used denial as a powerful tool to help us survive and to live life.
Using the program and being honest, open and willing as well as keeping an open mind,-- the denial begins to lift and we start to see the reality of our lives and our families .The program suggests that we look into the past without staring as it is so easy to lose perspective and stop living in the present.
Unlocking the secrets of the past can offer many gifts, but the purpose of the search is to recover from the effects of the disease of alcoholism and get on with our lives here and now . With the support of Al-Anon members and our sponsors, we can face the reality of the past, not to place blame or wallow in self-pity but to learn from it.
Todays reminder suggests that there is much to learn from the past, but I cannot allow past hurts to smolder and destroy me. Instead I can ask HP to help me learn from the experiences and move forward and to make healthier choices.
And the quote is from Aldous Huxley said: experience is not what happens to you. It is what you do with what happens.
I am so grateful to the tools of this program because it has given me the tools not to blame, judge others as well as the ability to learn from my past.
Great post Betty. I tend to grieve over past mistakes. I now try to look at them as learning experiences. I had so many negative coping tools in my bag. I never judge anyone now as I have not walked in their shoes.
I'm so new in this program. Today's reading overwhelmed me. It's going to take much work to get to the point of letting my past mistakes go and be able to move forward.
