The C2C reading for today, July 30( my birthday incidentally), speaks about making a serious commitment to our recovery and that "finding happiness" is an inside job. It points out that we often are committed to happiness and working the program but at the first sign of trouble we abandon our program tools and resort to our old negative thinking and actions.
The reading suggests that "commitment" takes a big effort and is not magic. It Is a discipline that I must work for. Old habits are hard to break, so that using the tools, showing up with a deep commitment to the program will pay off in the long run. When tempted to react, I recite a slogan and remind myself to NOT React but respond by placing principles above personalities with courtesy and respect.
Today's reminder suggests that when we make a choice and stick with it we teach ourselves that our choices do have meaning and we are worthy of trust.
Quote is from Robert Frosts; "are very life depends on every things recurring until we answer from within.".
Happy birthday Betty! Hope you are doing something you love today.
I can relate to that at the first sign of trouble everything that I've strived for goes right out the door. As soon as I think I'm making great progress and getting stronger something happens that makes me lose my religion. But I know there is no way I can go back to being a doormat and being taken advantage of. I will not be that weak person again.
Thank you Birthday Girl for the daily and your ESH!
I still at times 'want' to react using old habits - they still come to the surface/front of the mind.
With this program, the ESH I get at F2F meetings and here, I have a new way! I work for it to replace the old habits, and many times it does come 'first'. Without being willing to do the work, I'd be a shell of who I am.
For me, working this program and trusting in a power greater than me has so made me a different/better person. Not just for my own space in this world, but beyond my little world. Every day, I look for a way to be of service to others and always find a way - big or small.
(((Hugs))) to all - grateful for you, Al-Anon and my HP. Make it a perfect day!
