So my AexH is in 1/2 way house for now and then possibly some jail time. I take care of our son, and I got his two BIG dogs, by default..... At the time I didnt mind as I knew they would continue to be neglected and not fed or watered as I was only one that did that when I realized he didnt .. He left them in horrible filth etc.. I cant even get into it it so sad. Anyway ...one is 11 and one is 7 ... the older one is in last stages of heart worms, but in no pain ...the 7 yr old I am treating for heart worm maintance... I am so frustrated... I cant find them a good home and I cant stand the thought of putting them down .. The 7 yr old is scared of everyone but my family he was so mistreated ..I hate them to be locked in a kennel 24/7 ... its so hot they just dug up my plumbing in back yard ..so Ive been filling the holes in 109 heat index in TX. Im at my wits end.. I know they're dogs !! but they still experience fear and loneliness and I have so much on my plate ....not their fault... I guess I just need to vent ...Im not sure what I need .... I do great and thenm something like this brings back anger that he can walk away and be "doing good again" as my little boy says when I have everything to still tend too..... UGH ....

I suspect there is a rescue organization in your area - it's a matter of finding who they are and making contact. There are people who will socialize the dogs and do their best to make them adoptable, etc. Maybe google around with the name of your area and "rescue dogs" and other search terms. You are wonderful to be thinking of them with so much else on your plate. I hope a solution presents itself soon.
Both dogs went to wonderful couples from Craigs list.
I also found a no-kill shelter less than an hour away - and that was my "plan B" in case I couldn't find someone qualified to home an abused animal.
I was tired of the police being called by the neighbors b/c he would tie up the dogs for days while I traveled. I found the "bark collar" had created a sore on the throat of one of them and the other was famished and I feared not fed during my trip. That was enough for me. I can't even take care of myself emotionally, let alone provide the amount of time these beautiful creatures needed.
Fingers crossed that HP will provide the perfect scenario for you all!!!
I love my dogs so much, I can't bear the thought of every putting them down. I know how hard it is to take care of animals not mentioning the expense. There are usually rescues all around, the local animal shelter might have good ideas as well. I know ours has foster parents for emergency situations. I wouldn't put any ad on Craiglist as I never felt it was really safe and it's easy to lie about stuff.
I totally can relate to your anger on your A being away and "doing good" I have experienced that with my husband. He waltzs out on a dime to get recovery. It is annoying. He went to a half way house and was just so full of himself at times that he was doing great and working on himself blah, blah, blah and then when he came home after 9 months of his rehabcation was astounded at all the stuff to do, take care, manage in the grown up world......(note, this is being written with a touch of sarcasm and humor)...he has since been sober now 16 months and his maturity level has risen significantly, but most days it's still a whole lot about him. But I am super grateful that he is sober today, I can have times of enjoyment, fun, peace and serenity with him in our relationship and I know without a doubt I can handle my life, my stuff, and when I feel overwhelmed I know HP will guide me to the right place or decision. (((Hugs)))
