The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The disease progresses in the next generation with my Daughter in law attempting to handle the emotional, mental, spiritual and physical conflict of our disease as manifested by my eldest son. He is everything I've learned about alcoholism over the past 36years of recovery. So is she yet she is striving for change and succeeding. I love my children, grand-children and great-grand-children and I am powerless still. I am not God or the King of this family. I am an elder member who has survived and also has ESH to share with those who need and want it while remaining powerless over how that comes out. I keep in my mind, memory and heart the program suggestion that I abandon myself to God as I understand God. I practice that and it works so I work it. Mahalo for all your support and Aloha. (((((hugs)))))
I can attest to the genetic transfer/sharing of this disease. There were many moments before I got to Al-Anon where I knew I was powerless (cuz of the other side of the table) yet felt so incredibly sad and guilty that I had 2 boys and they both have this disease.
My oldest has a fiance and relapsed at about 4.5 years. She's right now still in shock and my hope is to offer this great program to her. So far, she's not been able to make it to a meeting, but tomorrow may be the day - it's my F2F meeting day.
They are young, have a little one and another on the way. I pray each day that if we can't break the cycle of addiction, perhaps we can at least remain mindful of the disease and the ability to recover.
Thanks for the post and the reminder that no matter how badly I want to 'fix' it -- I can not but there is one who can and he's always present when I ask. Mahalo back @ ya! (((Hugs))) too!
