The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
C2C reading for 6-27 talks about the importance of sponsoring and the fact that being a sponsor is as much a commitment to ourselves as it is to the person we have agreed to sponsor.
The reading points out that often we are fearful when we are asked to sponsor another, however, we should remind ourselves that HP brings people into our lives who can help us to grow and that this person is not asking us to be their savior only a helper who will share experience strength and hope so as to walk the road of recovery, side-by-side.
The reading is indeed very powerful for me as it clearly reflected the importance of sponsor ship. It outlines the benefits the sponsor obtains - a chance to learn how to share intimately, to care, to practice detachment with love and to apply the Al-Anon principles more conscientiously than ever. I believe this is a very fulfilling and rewarding gift. This is indeed a fellowship of equals
The quote is from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; "give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think."
I have a wonderful sponsor - she is a double-winner and a counselor. She's so wise ... I used to wish she was my mother....LOL.
I have 2 sponsee(s) currently and am humbled to be a part of their lives/recovery.
If I had let my pride stand in the way of asking for help, I would not be where I am in my journey. My sponsor gives me a calm perspective when I am troubled and it's almost always exactly what I needed to hear. Her calm, wisdom, strength and courage inspire me often.
Because she is so good at not reacting, she's taught me how to be a gentler, calmer mother & wife. I will be forever grateful for her ear, guidance and wisdom.
My sponsees are also gifts as they allow me to channel all that my sponsor and the program has given me to another. I view my brain and heart as finite, so in order to continue growing, learning and improving, I must give something away to make room.
Thanks always for your ESH and I hope you have a lovely day too!
