I found out today An old timer has died he was my buddy. He was old enough to be my grandad, he was my all anon grandad From my family of choice . I gave him lifts to conventions and home from meetings I am gutted. But everytieme I think of him I smile. He married two alcoholics in his time. His favourite saying was I used to be a door mat now I am a flying carpet. He lived life to the full he was so happy thanks to al anon. He was actually at a dance having fun when he died. So heaven has a new al anon angel my meeting will not be the same with out him. 

Here are some of his sayings

i will help anyone but I won't carry them

i don't like people stepping on my toes anymore

i had to put my long pants on and grow up in al anon

 

he wasn't just a flying carpet he was a soaring carpet he learnt how to love himself again, he beat this disease he was not resentful bitter scared or isolated he was not full of hate or self pity. Alcoholism chewed him up and spat him out for many years but he used al anon to put himself back together. I used to joke with him and say I didn't know anyone who enjoyed life as much as him. I will miss him but I know he would say come on Tracy give me a hug crack a joke lets have some fun.   Life is to short make the best of it GOODNIGHT. jIMBO xxxxx Tracy xxxxx

(((Tracy_}}}} So sorry to read about the loss of your wonderful friend and after reading your heartfelt tribute I feel as if I know him personally.


I always remember that people who have passed live on in my heart and I can visit with them at any time and walk with the memories we shared.

Thank you for sharing his insights and his tools, anytime I see a carpet. I know I will remember your friend and his" soaring carpet " alanon work.

I truly am sorry for your loss

(((Tracy))) - you now have an Alanon angel....I almost feel like we all do.

So very sorry for your loss, may you find him in your heart when you need him as Betty suggests.

What a lovely way to honor him. He's looking down on you and is nodding at what a great friend you were while he was visiting us in this world.

May you be gentle with yourself today and focus on the good times as best you can.

And now you have passed his wisdom on to us. Flying carpet. I will remember that one. Just this morning on my walk I thought so-and-so's remark sounded like she thought I'm a doormat. wrong and so it resonated with me when I saw your friend's comment.

I know it's so hard to be the one left behind. Kind thoughts for you in your grief.
