Finally attended an Al Anon meeting

i finally attended my first meeting this week. It took me so,long to get there, and I am glad I went. My husband did react - not verbally but I could tell he wasn't happy. I think this is why it took me a while, because I was worried what he might do. Not that I went any further than that in my head - I just knew he would be unhappy. I try and avoid conflict with him because he can be hurtful when drinking. I did it for me and not to get a reaction from him. Everyone in the group were supportive and I shared how I got there. I definitely will be going back and will try out the 6 meeting as suggested.

Congrats. Billie - that's awesome that you made it to a F2F meeting! Glad you found the group supportive and were able to open and share.

(((HUGS))) to you and thanks for coming back and sharing!

Way to go! Trying to get to my third tomorrow eve but have to work all night and all day tomorrow. Hoping I can stay awake to get there. If not, my next chance is Wednesday. I'm going to immerse myself in it and see where it takes me. Ready to start step work and delve more deeply into how to integrate it into my daily life. Hoping to be able to work through plateaus and lulls to keep moving forward. Glad you made it!

One day he will be thanking you for going, your lives will be so much better.

So glad you went, that took great courage...The point where I begin my commitment to seek healing for myself followed one of the most difficult times of my life. The pain did not immediately cease, but I learned some very simple, but powerful concepts that allowed me a sliver of peace.

It took a few meetings for it to really sink in, but the glimpses of peace I gathered early on were more than I had been able to carve out on my own in months, despite trying until exhaustion. Keep coming back, find your sliver...

Thanks for your encouragement. It was actually quite cathartic. I immediately knew I was in the right place.

Yay Billie...His reaction is normal cause he doesn't know what happened and therefore has no control.   My alcoholic/addict wife had a similar reaction after I was attending for awhile and I had learned to say nicely to her, "No one knows your name or what you look like and I'm not going for you."   End of story.  She didn't stop drinking...I stopped trying to fix her.    Keep coming back ((((hugs)))) smile

That's great news, Billie. I think the fact that you chose to explore the possibility that Alanon might be good for you and detach from your husband's reaction is a very good start. Glad it was a good meeting and you want to keep coming back.  Wishing you the best as you try more f2f meetings and get to know people and the program more. Hope you'll keep coming back to share here too. (((hugs))  TT

Awesome! Keep going back and try new meetings, too. I love my program and I couldn't imagine my life without it!

Good for you Billie!

Sometimes it is difficult for us to act and not base our actions on what we think others will think or do--great for you to get yourself to your first meeting and have a plan for yourSELF!!

Yay! Good for you!
I think it's an unfortunate truth that in a lot of cases, if our qualifier doesn't like what we are doing, it's probably a sign that it's the right choice.
I'm glad you're going to go back...you're worth it!!
