The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
I am new to all of this. My husband finally agreed to get help with his drinking about a month ago, after he was arrested for public intoxication when he took my three young children to the library while plastered. I will forever be grateful to the bystander who call 911 when she saw him.
A therapist I saw, recommended al anon meetings. But, between being a single mother of three yougins, working full time, and managing the house. ...how the heck am I supposed to find the time to spend hours out of the house to attend a meeting???
My husband ia still at home although I refuse to leave any of the boys in his care until I am confident again...unfortunately he was the primary caregiver - stay at home dad - and the boys now attend daycare. A choice my husband was not happy with but the right decison for the safety of the boys.
How do you find time and justify the time to attend meetings?
I'm lost...

Welcome to MIP! So glad you are here and looking into Alanon.
If it is absolutely impossible (for now) to get to Face to Face meetings in your community, MIP has meetings twice a day (see the schedule, top left area). They are great online meetings, and I attend often/regularly.
Perhaps as things settle down and you find more time you can then venture out to one locally. Nothing can replace going to F2F meetings, and sharing live with those in similar situations, but these meetings are certainly the next best thing.
Again, welcome aboard and so glad you are here.
Meetings online are 1.5 hours, but if you need to step away, you just do so. Meetings F2F are one hour long, so the time commitment is one hour + drive/chat time.
Hope this helps! Make it a great day!

I'm new also, and have only been to two meetings. The relief that I felt after those meetings was substantial and immediate. If you can manage to get to a few you might find that it's worth it to make time for them. I'm eagerly awaiting my next meeting on Monday. I have not been to an online meeting, however, I'm sure I will give it a try at some point. I have found that through this board and the meetings, I am able to concentrate better and handle the rest of the things that I have to do throughout my day with a little less stress. I hope you can try one of these options and that you find one that helps. Keeping yourself healthy will make you the best "you" that you can be for your kids.
Welcome Earlybird I can certainly understand you time constants Until you can make time for face to face meetings please try MIP's On line meetings held here 2xs a day
Here is the link and time frames
You might also be able to call the Al-Anon hotline for your area and find a meeting that has free childcare. Some meetings do. What I've gotten from meetings in terms of mental health and emotional tools are definitely worth the meeting time away from my child - they allow me to be a much better parent.
