ODAT Reading 5-17

The ODAT reading for May 17 makes a very important point. It suggests  that when we are sick we go to the doctor and take the medicine that is prescribed . That  when we are soul sick and heartsick we need medicine just as much or even more. That living with the disease of alcoholism and with our own neurotic responses to that, we need the spiritual and emotional curative  that Al-Anon can offer.

It points out that in the beginning we do not realize how much we needed the help but when we see others healed of their despair, we find that we are willing to accept this program. People deprive themselves when they blindly reject the help of Al-Anon. We will benefit if we would take the medicine until we feel it's beneficial effects.

Today's reminder, if ever we have found relief from self torment in Al-Anon, if ever we have enjoyed moments of wonder at how much better we felt. I will not likely let go of Al-Anon. We all learn sooner or later that it can be applied to all facets of our life.

The quote is "it is comforting to know that I need never face my problems without the help of Al-Anon."

Betty - thanks for this and for all you do. I often wonder why I tend to stop doing what works for me when I feel 'better'. If I just take my medicine each and every day, my days are so much easier and serene. It's when I stop or skip or change things up that I lean towards the 'craziness' again.

Your ESH is a blessing for me each time I see you post!! :) :)

Thank you Betty :) I know I would be lost without alanon. I usually do three or four face to face meetings a week, either Alanon or coda. I need reminders. Today my stepson graduates, there is a possibility of drama from his bio mom, she already attempted to stir the pot by calling me names two days ago. I was able to be quiet and pray..and detach. I know I need my program and a meeting this morning before the event, so that I will be principled this afternoon.
