ODAT READING for 5-15

The ODAT reading for May 15 is a powerful reminder to keep the focus on ourselves and stop trying to figure out why somebody says what they say or do.

The reading stresses importance of not jumping to conclusions about another person's motives, our actions as we cannot read people's minds. Even when people are acting the most obnoxious we should  remember this may be there most unhappiest time and not judge.

Nobody but God understands what goes on with in another person and it is not our job to be God or even a psychiatrist to anyone else . All that we are asked to do is to treat them with respect, no matter battered they may be.

Reminder for  today. We need to examine our own role in the confusion and despair in my life if I do this,. honestly, I will come to realize that I am not blameless, that there is much to be changed in me.

Today's quote is; "how can he think the way I think, or do just what I do?
( I will remember day by day. My love that I am not you.")

I can so identify with this reading, as I always believed that I could read minds and that it was my job to quote figure it out, come up with a solution and solve the problems. My motives for continually analyzing a situations for a  person was because I thought, if I knew and understood what was wrong. I could fix it.

Al-Anon continually hammered home the idea that I was powerless over people, places and things That I needed to know my motives and use constructive  tools to live by.

Thanks Betty! Hard to not want to fix things! But everyday it gets easier and easier to let go!

Hotrod,
Having had such a crisisly (I just made that a word by the way) week since Mother's day. I too took a great deal of meaning from this reading. I also shared it with my AH. I do not clearly understand my exact motive of my sharing it with him except that it touched me in a way that I felt the need to reach out to him and share that reading. He took it well. By the way even though that occurred on Friday I am still trying to check myself on my motivation. Only second guessed myself after I had read it to him. Maybe I am just being overly sensitive in my attempts to make sure I am taking care of my side of the street.
Thanks for sharing this reading and your take on it as well.
HUGS

There is much to be changed in me and I often get caught up in the mothering, lecturer, "I know whats best for you role" It is so hard when it is your child to separate yourself from feeling somehow that it is your job to fix her and make it all better. I have to accept that I cannot but she can and I have to allow her the dignity and respect to make her own choices whether I agree or not. I am sick of my own lectures lol so I can only imagine how she feels. Practice practice practice loving detachment.  Thank you Betty.  This spoke to me today.
