That is a statement taught to me by my early sponsor after I realize in my stubbornness that I have attempted to control outcomes and came up battered and bruised. That sponsor is gone now however the lesson is fresh, loud and clear. My wife exercised caring for me leaving me a list of 10 suggestions which I could consider doing within reason to improve my health and recovery condition which remains as a result of the head surgery a short while back. I chose #9 take a 10 minute walk however I am still the risk taker and 10 minutes didn't seem "best practice". I called her and told her I would do the walk Intending to arrive at the hotel she works at - 5 miles and several hour later. I convinced myself and her that I could do the walk (still know how to) and I was looking forward to it. I set aside my definition of sanity (a continuous and orderly process of thought) and overlooked reality which she is the keeper of "You're not up to normal...don't attempt a 4 mile walk which would take hours longer even for a healthy person". I set out from the house with best intention and not best system and headed for the hotel...down hill mostly and in short time was staggering like a drunk, stumbling on good sidewalks and wondering when those neighbors would call the police to come investigate. That was another concern as the police and I have a natural ego friction and then I still thought about it and more so when I had to admit I wasn't going to fulfill my plan and needed to stop. My wife and I had a back up plan B that she would come and get me should I call and so I found a shady, cool soft grassy spot to stop at and call for back up...would you guess it was right in front of the Police Station...embarrassingly I went down on my knees and then rolled to my back and couldn't get back up. I help for that from two females (God gifts) and then called my wife. When I told her where I was (police department) she got an instant reaction because the last time I called her for help when I was there she was to bring 500 dollars bail money to get me out of the cell...Not to fret it was a false arrest on a previous warrant which should have never been issued and still while I try to insulate my wife from issues which are 125 years old are about the illegal hold the u.s. has over our free, sovereign nation Hawaii. She admitted to not wanting to hear the word police and then she found me alone unshackled leading against a tree. A ten minute walk would have never taken me as far in travel and travel time. I had the opportunity to exercise without the insanity and then ...I got myself good that time. Its called being stubborn. Did make me sleepy though. Of course I take feedback. ((((hugs))))
Jerry! What an adventure! So many potentially scary parts of that adventure. I bet you never thought, last time you were at the police station, "Next time I pass by this place I'll be happy to stop here!" So glad this all ended happily and that you are not still upside down like a pillbug (but a very wise pillbug). Hang in there, Jerry, we need you!
So glad that you had a Plan "B" Jerry. I am glad you are working on improving your health, small steps get you there faster :) Please be gentle with yourself .
Aww....Jerry. I see it as testing your limits :) But what I like most about this is that your sweet wife came for you and you took help from strangers. Also, that you changed plans on the spot and leaned up against a tree. Not so stubborn really. It's kind of ironic. You had difficulty with this walk....but I see you walking through the world pretty gracefully.
Lucky you, support from so many even a big old tree HP does have a sense of humor.. landing you flat in front of the police station. Glad you're ok and hope you do something extra nice for your wife to show your gratitude. (((hugs)) TT
