Come a long way baby!! :)

Wanted to share with everyone something that happened a few evenings ago.  I purchased a mattress 2 1/2 years ago, the mattress                                                                                                                                                                     is not holding up at all and has a 5 year unconditional warrantee.  I needed to find the purchase paperwork for it and thought I had                                                                                                                                                                     put it in the file cabinet in my AH's little home office with the rest of the home receipts and guarantees.  AH was in the room when I                                                                                                                                                                       said I needed to go through that file and wondered why he balked at my needing to open the file cabinet draw. It did not dawn on me,                                                                                                                                                               until he opened the draw, that there were two huge cans of beer in the back of the draw.  I looked at the cans, then looked up at him,                                                                                                                                                                   and he immediately responds with "Oh, how did those get in there?"  My first reaction was to smile, and without hesitating just reached                                                                                                                                                             into the file for what I was looking for and found no need to respond or acknowledge the beer.  I have come along way baby!!

It works when you work it!!  {{HUGS}}

Great job Debb, isn't it a wonderful feeling?
I think of it as if, instead of trying to ignore the elephant in the room, or screaming at everyone else to notice it, I give it a wink and a smile as I walk by. Hey there elephant, lovely day isn't it?
lol.
Your positive attitude makes me smile; it's inspiring. Thank-you

Wow, I am amazed because I cannot picture myself reacting that way. After 5 months of al anon I think I could stay quiet and grab the file but I know I'd be absolutely furious and disgusted and I would barely talk the rest of the day. Got some growin' to do how long have you been working the program?

I have been working the program for a year this month!!  Two of the most important aspects that I grabbed hold of are:  (1) Alcoholism is a disease that no one can control, except the 'A' and (2) I had to stop the manipulation that the disease exerted on me (in order to get my serenity and self worth back) and the only way to do that was to let go and rely on my HP.  Everything else fell into place, it was so much easier to absorb the 12 steps.  xoxox

I was going to say I don't know if I could do that. I can't be around alcoholism like that because of my own alcoholism. It would disturb me in my AA program to find hidden bottles like thst so I think that is why I have trouble relating a bit. I had to leave the A to get sober. I couldn't ignore it. It was like I didn't have that option even. I think you are really strong.
