I have a friend that lives in America that I met via an al-anon type group on the internet and we have become pretty close, "soul sisters" we say.
Just before, as I sat in my room in the middle of the night huddled by my heater, she told me it is morning over there and she is going outside to plant sunflowers with her little girl. I love sunflowers, they are my very favourite flower and I asked her if she would plant one just for me.
She said yes absolutely and she will name it after me and send me pictures. How beautiful is that, somewhere in America (Michigan apparently) a sunflower is being planted for me right now.
The world is so full of beautiful people, if we would only see them.
(((everyone)))

One of the things I like about the internet is the connection to people half a world away. This morning before it gets warm, I moved my bee hive about a foot, I'm slowly inching it across the yard hoping to move it without upsetting them. the water in their marble bowl is frozen over. The birds are daffy noisy out there, I stopped to inspect Sigmund (the grape vine) and she has new shoots just starting (yea! she survived the winter). I love sunflowers but never seem to remember to plant the seeds for them, maybe I will this year! Thanks for the gratitude picture Mel!

Funny that you brought the subject up about sunflowers. Was talking to my daughter, about a half hour ago, that I keep pulling up clumps of sunflowers everywhere in the yard this spring. The squirrels have been planting the seeds from the winter feeders all about the yard, but the flowers are growing in places that are not appropriate, when I see some coming up against the house or stockade fence I will leave them and see if we get some big blooms!! I consider them little gifts from the squirrels for feeding them all winter.

miss, I hope your sunflower grows tall, strong and beautiful! Thanks for sharing that. I hope the thought of it brings you strength when you need it.
likemyheart, I wish I could see your yard! I kept bees for a few years also and I just loved to watch them busily fly in and out. I loved the sound of the hive and the smell when it was opened. My house was my grandmother's, and I have some ancient, out-of-control grapevines here. They are older than I am, and I have great reverence for them.
I also find that sometimes the small things in our day can have such great power and beauty. Some of my favorites are the way drops of water hang from the brim of my hat when I run on a rainy day, looking out my west window to see the shiny hide of my local fat groundhog as he/she grazes under the lilac bush and watching the nuthatch casually hop down the side of the peanut feeder head first and stand upside down while he eats.
Hope everyone is having a lovely and refreshing weekend!
