new and scared

I havent got any guidebooks or found any meetings yet and really want to understand what the steps are and the ideas surrounding them so i can quit being angry. I know sometimes i get angry because if i dont i will break down and cry and i just dont have the time! I also care for my aging mother who is also drug addicted in a different manner. I was reading the co dependency handbook at 13, long line of alcoholics in my family. I am reaching out here so i dont just put off the fight i need to fight for myself. Im scared and alone in the relationships with the 3 people i love the most, my mother, daughter and granddaughter.

You are no longer alone Please try to attend face to face meetings  or the on line meetings that are held her 2xs a day.

Breaking the isolation caused by living in the insanity of alcoholim is crucial to your own wellbeing and sanity.
There are many booklets available at meetings that can help during painful times.
My favorite  is the booklet " Alcoholism the Family disease "as well as the daily readers.

I think the only way to tackle this awful disease is to put in the time and effort into alanon. I go to a F2F, have a sponsor, use the board, and try to read daily. I know it sounds like alot and I wasn't going to do anything but the board, but my hard work is paying off. If you work the program the rewards are great. I feel so much better than I used to. I will continue with all my alanon tools because my recovery is greater than I ever imagined. You can too! Lyne

Kellkell it takes awhile to not be angry anymore
And to work on yourself in recovery. Just start at
The beginning and keep going forward.

There are three daily readers to buy 12-14 dollars
Each also free pamplets and a lending library at
Ftf mtgs. You do not need to understand the steps
Till you have been attending for awhile. Maybe by
Then you would have found a sponsor to help you
Learn the ropes and work the steps.

There is no rush to do anything but go with an open
Mind. It is a program about you not the addicts they
Are your qualifiers. This is a program for you to heal
And get emotionally and spiritually healthy.

KellKell - welcome! You are not alone. And, there may be a few more relationships that you could look into. The one with yourself and God as you understand him. Focusing on that relationship first has really helped me with the other relationships in my family. I also come from a long line of enablers who tend to connect with addicts or narcissists or anyone else who may suck the very life out of us. I got better when I realized it was my life and this pattern could truly end with me! :)

Hugs and keep coming back!

Welcome KK!  Glad to have you here with us.  It's normal to feel new and scared.  None of us get here when life is good and we want to add alittle Alanon to spice it up.  We've usually hit an emotional bottom.  We're all vulnerable to some degree.  Start with meetings.  Let them know your new and The Fellowship will take over.  In between, come here and share how you're feeling with us.  smile

Aloha KelliK  and welcome also from this side of the family - Hawaii.  Yes we are world wide and can be in this family almost everywhere you are.  I like the loving responses that the MIP fellowship has offered to you here because it is exactly what I experience when I found the rooms of the Al-Anon Family Groups back then.  I know the "scared" as I found out that FEAR is the greatest emotional tool that the disease of alcoholism holds its victims with.  Read back on the earlier shares of our fellowship and discover that.  Fear for me was a dark room, no lights and therefore no windows or door until the program led me around the room hand feeling the walls until I found the windows and doors to let the light in to see where I was at.  That is the metaphor for how the program helped me early on and now I am not afraid...I know what's in the room and where the windows are to let in the light and air and where the doors are so that I can enter and leave as I decide.   Welcome home...be afraid for now and don't leave.  Your safe.   (((((hugs))))) smile

Welcome!

I know that anger well. AlAnon has helped me to move past the anger and the fear, and I am slowly figuring things out. This group has been a lifesaver for me, because people are almost always here, and I feel like I can reach out for help when I need it. My face to face meetings are great, too, but in a different way.

Hugs
