My AH went to a bunch of meetings this week and was doing great since all the drama last Friday. He bought a new car last night and went to go pick it up and then was going to come home so we could get ice cream with the kids. I could tell when he was putting their car seats in the car that he had drank something. He wasn't drunk but I could smell it on him. I couldn't even look at him/talk to him at the ice cream shop. I could tell he was sad/disappointed in himself and when we got home he went to a meeting. I have to say I was fuming and really wanted to lay into him when he got home and let him know that I knew what happened. Instead I shut off the TV and went to bed. When he got home he came upstairs to talk and told me what had happened. At least he was honest but I couldn't help being so disappointed. I didn't lay into him because really what would that have accomplished as we both knew what happened and he already felt like such a failure. He told me that he plans to go to another meeting tonight and this weekend and will double up with meetings next week when I am away in FL (which I decided to bring both boys with me as he is in no shape to be responsible for kids). I guess I just wanted to say I am grateful for this program as a few weeks ago I just would have gone off on him and both of our walls would have gone up and we wouldn't have been able to have such an honest talk. I did tell him that I was proud of him and that he can't let this set back discourage him and get in the way of his sobriety. Has anyone had issues where the alcoholic slips but gets right back on the wagon for more AA meetings? Trying not to set my expectations so high but this week has just been so great with him being sober and attending meetings.
