The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The ODA T reading for April 24 speaks about entering Al-Anon and learning a new way of looking at the world and thereby changing our lives. It discusses the thought, that we must guard against judging others by our standards, and that by keeping the focus on ourselves we can improve our own standards by living up to the standards we place on others.
By placing principles above personalities and practicing these principles in all our affairs, our own life begins to change as we ourselves are changing instead of focusing on others.
The reading goes on to point out that many of us have never admitted to ourselves that we were wrong or at fault in anything. In the beginning.,it may have been a shock to learn that this is part of our recovery. Searching on our own shortcomings, being honest about what I find is truly a challenge. This is well worth the effort because it was only when I did this, did I discover all the many negative tools that I used to hurt myself. Learning this, and being able to replace these negative reactions with positive responses was a true gift of this program
Quote from Marcus Aurelius "because a thing seems difficult for you, do not think it is impossible for anyone to accomplish. But whatever is possible for another, believe that you, too, are capable of.it"
Thank you! I love this and truly have come to believe my way is for me only and other people will find a different way and it is not good or bad it is just in fact their way. I now find myself having confidence to dream big and attain my goals thanks to al-anon. Thanks Hotrod for posting this! Sending you much love and support!
