Coping...


My fiancee is drinming again and telling me how I have ruined his life.  I am trying to stay away from him...any tips ln how you cope?

He's an adult and nobody has the power to ruin his life but him. So don't think about that a second. Also, a normal persons reaction to their life not going right is to do something to make it better, not self-sabotage by drowning in intoxicants. Recognize the insanity and detach. When you stay detached, he won't be able to blame his problems on you because you won't be around. He will have to focus on himself and his issues eventually.

The book "Getting Them Sober" by Toby Rice Drews helped me so did "The Language of Letting Go" by Melody Beattie. The 3 daily readers that I got at my al-anon face to face meetings help me every morning to spend some quiet time reflecting on how I want to start my day and to let go of the rest of the noise in my head. MIP, my sponsor and meetings helped me a lot! Saying the serenity prayer also helps until I remember what little is actually in my control, then I can move on.
