My relaxing day.

Oh dear.

I didnt have to be anywhere today and daughter is away at camp, so I decided to sleep late and then read the day away. Heaven right? I thought it would be just what I need to destress and get my happy back.

So I opened the curtains to let the sun in, lay down on my bed and opened my book and next door started fighting. It was terrible, the worst I have ever heard, they were smashing things and screaming and I think the walls are probably full of holes (we share a wall, I'm glad no-ones head popped through into my room, ugh!) and it ended with him throwing her out into the street with her stuff and he was threatening her with a crowbar it was AWFUL. She was screaming back and came back a few times to go back in and scream at him and then drive off and come back a few minutes later and go in and scream at him some more...I cringed every time because I could hear in his voice that he was way past dangerous and it sounds as if he literally smashed up the entire house. I came a bit unglued because my curtain was open and they can see in from their yard, I didn't want them to catch sight of me because he was in such a rage, I was scared he was actually going to bash her head in with the crowbar and I was scared if he saw I was here listening he might turn on me too. I'm a bit shocked by my reaction, I just cowered like a dog under the window line and didn't move until I was sure she was gone and it was over. I don't think she was hurt, she seemed healthy and feisty and giving back as good as she got otherwise I would have called someone (and then been terrified he would know it was me).

So that was my relaxing day.

lol.

And I thought he was like the nicest guy I have ever met and absolutely gorgeous, HA. Hilarious.

Oh my, oh dear.

I think I would have called the police, as long as I could be sure that they hadn't seen me.

It's sort of symbolic about how we've lived, isn't it - we thought we were going to have smooth sailing, and then dysfunction burst in on the scene.

Glad you stayed out of the way!

He jumped over my fence at one stage after she left and I almost had heart failure but he was retrieving some of the things he had been throwing at her car that had landed in my yard. So, that's all right then? Ugh.

I'm grateful my daughter wasn't here because it would have upset her. Grateful I don't live with that myself anymore and never will again. And grateful that she escaped intact and hasn't been back again for many hours, maybe it's the start of something new for her.

I'm dreading when he knocks on the door to "apologise for the disturbance" as he has done before, because it was waaaaaaay outside the bounds of a "disturbance".

Wow. That would have scared me too. I am a very feisty girl but the minute male aggression and screaming starts coming out I tend to turn into a quiet little girl. My father would go into drug and alcohol rages when I was small and if I was anywhere around there was the potential for me to become a target so I learned to shrink and hide myself. I would have done the exact same as you. I would have hid and the only thing that would have caused me to call authorities is if things had actually escalated to him hitting her with the crow bar. But you know, I'm ashamed to say I cant say for sure if I would. I think I would.....That has given me something to think about.

Sorry your reading time was disturbed :(

You know what's sorta great about this?  You're now on the outside of an alcoholic household, looking in and keeping clear.  No longer on the inside!  That is cause for great celebration.
