My own insanity today

Hello. I'm new in The Forum. I have been to several Al-Anon meetings. I have yet to get a sponsor. I have only spoken one time at a meeting. I'm having trouble participating and working the program. I want and need relief from so much and I can't seem to get myself to a starting point other than showing up each Saturday night. At times I'm ready to quit. But manage to drag myself back.

I am 52 years old. I was born into the life of alcoholics. My father died from alcoholism. As did his brother. My mother was a very heavy drinker. She married a second time to another alcoholic. I married into an alcoholic family. My husband and grown son and daughter are alcoholics. I drink, but normally. I have never had help for anything in my life. I am still married to the same man for 33 years. The last eight years my life has taken on a turn to loneliness and isolation. My kids have chosen to no longer have anything to do with me. I am codependent on top of it all. I have monumental problems with resentment and bitterness towards myself and the alcoholics in my life. I'm ready to walk out on 33 years of marriage. Al-Anon says to wait a year or two to be sure. I'm sticking with that. I do feel though that if it's not going to work in 33 years, it's not ever going to work. I'm sad, depressed and can't shake the crap today. It's a cool and windy day. But the sun is quite nice and the grass here is finally green. A pretty day over all. But i'm not feelin so pretty inside.

I've got God and myself as my HP's and three Al-Anon readers, all the slogans you could want and a book on codependency. Nothing is pulling me out of my funk today. Sorry for my pity party, but thank you for the vent. Have a wonderful weekend to anyone who has read this.

Welcome julie i can relate on many levels. I am not
Really codependent though. That is a tough one to
Deal with. Its about taking your power back to take
Care of us not them. Letting the alcholic face and
Deal with there own stuff.

I went to ftf mtgs and just listened for two years.
I was at rock bottom but i kept showing up for me.
My ah was attending AA for himself and actually
Our marriage got much worse after he started.

My dry ah moved out nine months ago to have a
Better relationship with his AA gf asking for a
Divorce. My recovery Took off in leaps and bounds
after that. I became The doormat come alive. I still
Suffer from grieving and Trauma after 29 years
Of living with a dry Alcoholic and i was born to it.

Do what is best for you to heal on the inside. It
Is not an easy road. I wish i could attend an alanon
Meeting a night right about now but its not possible.
Keep posting on here it helps with your Journey.
Its breaking the isolation and the crazymaking
from the disease.

Welcome Julie You have taken so many very postive steps to enable you to find serenity, happiness and love in your life.

I am happy you have picked up some alanon literature and are considering attending meetings and working the program for a time before maiking any major decisions The reasons for this suggestion is that after working the program, learning to keep the focus on ourselves, live one day a time, trusting HP our attitudes change and we learn how to not react but respond in a healthy courteous manner This change in attitude makes living with the disease manageable and new options open out.

Please keep coming back

Saturday nights Al-Anon meeting did help! Funny how, when you go to a meeting and your in a lot of emotional pain, the subject for the night is JUST what you needed. The topic was to be kind and gentle with myself. To take care of myself and to ask my Higher Power for help and guidance and to read some CAL. I did NONE of those things. Shame on me for allowing myself to suffer. I will know better in the future. Today? I feel good. Heading off to church and going out to the boardwalk by Lake Erie for some spring photography. Going to enjoy my day and recoup what I lost to myself from yesterday. Have a blessed Sunday!

And Julie, Just for Today, try not to take on and solve all you have been thru at one time. It will happen One Day at A Time, for YOU....

You have been fortunate to find Alanon for yourself..thats where we begin, with just ourself...

Good luck to you and follow this path and unfold all the solutions for your life. We live on this planet to become happy, it has to be the priority of our life.
We have to make it that and sometimes its difficult to do, but for all our problems there are solutions.

Life is a journey Julie, try to find as much enjoyment as you can.

Hugs, Bettina

Ever read the book "Getting Them Sober" by Toby Rice Drews? That was one of the first books I read when I crawled in to my first al-anon meeting and it made a huge change in my outlook. Keep coming in and dive in, you are worth it! Sending you love and support on your journey!
